I used Fluid Film on my previous truck. This time around I used Mavcoat.

Just picked up a pack of FF cans from Amazon. Noticed that someone said it comes off pretty easily with the power washer.

My practice has always been to power wash the underbody after it's been out in snow of off road. How is this stuff going to hold up? Should I refrain from deep cleaning under there so the coat doesn't come off?

After application, just rinse with a hose or whatever. Dont power wash unless you're trying to remove it

i did some experimenting with it last month, first time FF user
after about 7 passes through the underbody wash (recently had a monthly unlimited pass) this is how it turned out

first pic is the before, with the super drizzle and got it all buttered up

    IMG_9659.jpg

and after 2 weeks, 7 washes, no hard rain or puddles on the roads back in October

FF isn't an insulation foam that expands why do you think it clogs the hole

i do not know if i can restrain myself from power washing at the DIY wand place
i must hit the wheel wells, door jams, rockers, tailgate with all the force it will deliver to me in about 5 minutes

this is my tired old taco i am trying to protect

    IMG_9743.jpg

i have the beginnings of rust  from rock chips behind those rear mudflaps that i need to take care of soon!
thinking about some surface touchup fix and then a clearbra type of film back there?

The guy who ran the shop that did my FF treatment said powerwashing the exterior of the vehicle is fine, powerwashing the wheels themselves is fine even (road spray is gonna effectively do that anyways so the FF does not last long in wheel wells), but he said don't hit anything on the underside (basically anywhere you want the FF to stay stuck) with anything but a garden hose pressure. So, it would seem you could hit the "wheel wells, door jams, rockers, tailgate" as long as you were careful to avoid blowing off the fluid film on the frame around those parts. If water leaks in behind the rear fender panels etc it wont have the pressure to blow off the FF unless you climb under there and aim to hit it directly. Does that make sense?

Edit: He said you could even run through an automated wash as long as it didn't hit the FF areas you wanted to stay FF'd.. but thats hard to control/guarantee with an automated...

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

For what it's worth, the automated washes by me are never really any good at getting the underside. I always found the underside wet at best, never clean. I've tried a couple of places after some light offroading and I was just never pleased.

worst case you have to reapply the FF. It probably soaks in and sticks better to rust than well maintained painted metal but I have not tested that.

Yeah I'm not too worried. The truck has less than 500 miles on it so far. I'll probably refrain from driving in the snow...but I want something to coat the underside before the winter season gets under way. Will probably power wash it all off in the spring when road salt isn't a thing and it's just normal dirt and surface grime. That way I can make sure to wash spots that I might have missed with the film.

Seems reasonable. The shop that did my FF suggested I give a solid undercarriage wash with powerwasher or through a good underbody carwash before coming back for the reapplication next fall.

Lies. The only solution is something like Fluid Film or that Mavcoat.

Exact opposite.. The Corronion Free in the door chases out water and I t "moves" all the time. Forces itself into crevices, etc and as a result, it forces out water. Mine creeps out the door holes and moves a;; along the bottom edge then up the outside door skin to about 6" before I wash it off the door. You will notice this "creep" up the tailgates of users when you follow them.

If you get snow and want to keep your vehicle looking good for many years, rustproof. It's that simple.
    I do Krown, personally.

What? No. They spray the roads with magnesium chloride here. It may not be rock salt like in other states, but it is still corrosive. My truck lived 15 years in California and the frame looked new outside of the paint a little dull from age (not shiny), but after its first trip to Colorado it already started to have surface rust.

Rather than rust proof I sprayed my frame and under body components with spray-on bed liner. It worked great on my 2012 Tacoma. I just check it for any touch up each fall.

I live in NY. Pretty much any vehicle we have here can benefit from rust proofing. I bought my taco from another NY resident who bought it from pa (no salt). When he bought it he used POR 15 underneath, then spray undercoat, then fluid filmed yearly since. It’s exceptionally clean for the truck it is and if that hadn’t been done it would be ugly underneath. It can’t hurt to rustproof your truck. Once the rust starts it’s hard to get it to stop or get rid of it.
