You will use a hand grinder with a cutting wheel to cut off the bad parts and yes the new sections u purchase just slide right over the old frame then weld

If you can do the work yourself or have some skilled friends it is not bad If you need to farm this out it gets expensive fast!.

The last job I bid Was $3,000.00 plus any other costs incurred when removing the bed and fuel tank and assorted fuel and brake lines

While Safety Caps is a good choice if you don`t have the time or take the time to make your own replacement pieces

Only you can decide when the cost is to much. With the increase in prices of steel I thought Safety Caps were expensive before.

Dana Corp who did not survive this issue made the frames .

I have never been able to find out what mill rolled the steel.

Every Coil I have ever seen has had Factory Reps at the mill to inspect the steel that plus paper work with every coil .

If the paper work went missing the coil was refused .

They declared bankruptcy but they're still around. They've got a factory near me that produces driveline parts, it's right next to Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant.

I guess they have gotten much smaller in that respect.

The plant they had in Reading Pa is now a parking lot.

Then someone might have picked up the parts cheap.

Not sure if I’m reading the chart right, do they make caps for 2WD regular cabs?

Check out the Website !! To see for sure the 2Wd will have it`s own page if they make them.

You have the 2WD 5 Lug wheels truck not a prerunner.

Yes check the AutoRust Website There is a listing.

So I was able to talk with my mechanic and he said that he’s going to do some research and he might be able to fix it using the frame caps. Now I’m waiting on a quote and hopefully good news. The picture I posted was one he sent me, so when I went to look at it I took some of my own as well. Here are those pictures for anyone who wants to see. I still can’t believe I was driving around with the damn thing like that

You never heard any banging as that moved around??

Or were able to feel a difference in ride or handling??

look at the other side real close.

    Good Luck!

I did hear some clunking going over speed bumps, but it sounded exactly like how a U bolt sounds when it goes bad. It drove like it needed an alignment which is part of the reason I brought it into the shop. But the fact that the spring is barely on there is probably why it didn’t drive straight. Besides those things it drove pretty decent.

I’ll definitely check the other side really well, as well as the frame under the bed. I might end up buying these to go back there depending on how bad it is

The caps are the only way to go for something like this. I would not try fabricating this unless you are really good at these sorts of things.

Not everyone has the skills but then someone else is more likely doing the work.

If they did not have the ability to make the repair panels they should not be working on welding a frame.

Quite different if your buying them to save the end user labor $380.00 plus shipping
