    Looks like normal "brown" and not rust to me. But what do I know, I'm colorblind.

    They were very rough feeling as I loosen them. Like that feeling of grinding/rough turning. I used anti sieze on the new ones, but I wanted to make sure this wasn't signs of something bad.

    Also... Should there be a deal between the valve cover and the spark tube?

    Small possibility that some water got into them, happens sometimes when engines are washed with pressure washers and what not. I wouldn’t worry about it, just replace them and you’re good to go!

    That’s exactly the color you want. If they are white you have a problem cuz it means your motor is running lean which will make it run hot and blow gaskets/seals.
    Black would be either running rich/cold or oil fouling from excessive blow by
