I'm sort of on a budget at the moment but I want to get a CAI soon so I can get an exhaust as well. I haven't seen much about the S&B cold air intakes on here. I'm looking at the dry filter which retails for 299 while the TRD one I found for 385. Any advise?

Don't bother. The intake already pulls air through the fender, which is a CAI. Save your money for better mods.

    this and that...
sb is very aggresive in the sound dept. when you hit vvti the whole cabin echoes if you get on it. under normal acceleration or casual driving it has a nice mellow growl. i dig it. taco is not my dd so doesnt bother me to leave it on. if you have a heavy foot or you carry passengers often or both, i guess it could be...a bit much lol. take that as you will.

edit: i noticed the title said VS trd cai. the only thing i can add and its not exactly apples to apples, i had trd intakes twice on my 2nd gens (08 xrunner, 13 trd or), it sounds good straight up. when you get on it, it kinda had that echo in the cabin that i mentioned earlier, but the sb is more...prominent in sound when drove aggressively.

Since you're on a budget. There's another forum member that posted a "DIY CAI" like the TRD version, yet the person also listed all needed parts to do it which makes it easier to perform this mod.

Try the search function. I'm on mobile phone so it's a pain to search for if you are interested

You can be tuned for that kind of money. Won't sound as cool as CAI and Catback. Depends on what you're looking for I guess.

Toyota, overall, designs their airboxes well. Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket, it's pointless, especially without a proper tune.

If you want sound, go for it, i suppose.

Ok so my plan is to pick up the OV tune which I'm currently working on. I've heard that the bottleneck of the entire system is the exhaust so I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade the intake and exhaust.

Use the Stock CAI and get the G-tell Fab CAI mod. It about $80. It adds another air intake hole for CAI Box. Then drop a oil or dry air filter in and your set. I have this set up with the OV Tune and its Awesome!

I'm sure the engineers at Toyota would disagree. If you want sound go for it, but don't expect any performance gains. Automotive manufacturers spend an enormous amounts of resources tuning an entire drivetrain to squeak every ounce of performance, mileage, and reduce emissions, there is no hidden trick to unlock secret HP , for just a few in the know. Now a tune? Yeah, I could see it, but probably with higher octane levels.

Yea, I meant with a tune, OV tune more specifically. My bad for not specifying there
