S&B or Are cold air intake

What's up y'all!

Next mod is a cold air intake!! Trying to decide between s&b or the afe?

Any inputs or thoughts?

I would just keep the stock cold air intake, about the only thing you will get from the aftermarket ones is noise.

 

Since your local and in CA look for one that has a CARB OE sticker unless you dont care. You have a long time until you need to smog so nothing urgent. Not much performance gains on either of them. Alot of folks like the AFE though.

 

Or doesn't have cold air intake stock

 

Just get a drop in and call it a day. Lots of money for a pretty part that does nothing and is hidden 99% of the time

You already have a “cold air” intake with the pro. You may see some marginal difference with an aftermarket one but it seems like a waste. Have you considered a safari snorkel?

EDIT- thought you had a pro. Point still mostly stands though. You’re not going to see much improvement with a CAI

 

I mean probably doing it to more or less give the truck a better sound..

 

Technically all stock ones on the Tacomas are cold air intakes with more stuff to keep it quiet. The aftermarket removes the sound suppressing and a bit more air throughput. The TRD version for the 3rd gens uses the same bottom of the stock airbox but replaces the top and tube for example.

Yeah my edit was about .2 seconds too slow lol. Point still stands though. You’re not getting a lot of cold air with your intake under the hood.

 

Already did a muffler swap for a flowmaster 40. Lol. I think the CAI will amplify that?

 

The Factory Intake draws in from outside the engine compartment so it is a cold air intake.

S&B and Injen make the best Aftermarket CAI systems.

 

Love my S and B. Sounds great when you get on it. I feel a small amount of gain with OVtune and a manual tran.

 

Well, I read today that pretty much none of the CAI systems are legal in CA where I live. Sucks to be in a state with such shit policies ahaha. But the nature is really cool so I guess it balances?
