Real sequential transmissions (not these watered-down autos with *somewhat* of a gear selection) are: push forward = downshift, pull back = upshift. Not to mention real race bikes (think moto GP) the shifters are flipped. All you guys sound like morons.

I guess I relate down to forward and back to up. I hope that clears some "stuff" up.

sure, on a regular bike. I was pointing out that bikes that are used in the most severe conditions (i.e. racing wide open, going the absolute fastest that aren't land speed record bikes) are down to shift up and up to shift down. (first is at the top, and 6th is at the bottom)

when accelerating in a car(or truck), what direction does your body go? backwards... so yanking BACK on the gear selector is absolutely more natural. opposite for downshifting, your body is thrown forward so pushing forward makes sense for downshifting.

Actually, pulling back on the yoke slows the plane down and pushing forward on the yoke speeds the plane up, assuming upright flying.
If you are in a stall, even before you hit the throttle, you push forward to increase airspeed. That must be reflex.
So, the plane analogy agrees with the stock Tacoma S mode directions.

BTW: It is easier to teach someone to fly if they don't know how to drive. Things are different up there and driving habits have to be unlearned.
Analogies are usually inappropriate...but who cares in this thread :)

    It's a secret
Layout is probably like Xbox vs Ninteno...where they are different just enough to be "unique" to each brand but still familiar...

    (X)(Y)
    (A)(B)

    Nintendo:

The reason I flipped the direction is because shifting with momentum is more natural. @CaptainBart45 the harness was created after my video. If I had it, I would have used it too.

This was an interesting thread about something that I never knew that people cared about, now I wish someone would figure out how to make the lumbar support turn into a back massage. It's embarrassing to have one of those personal personal vibrating massages in the cubby:rofl:

Every bike in MotoGP/WorldSBK/BritishSBK/AMA MotoAmerica etc.has a shift pattern where the rider pulls up on the lever for first, but the rest are push down to upshift. If you ever ride a motorcycle fast enough that it requires serious cornering angle, you understand why your shifting toe on the lever not under it for an upshift is safer, faster, better.

It is not uncommon for sport bike riders to reverse the standard street one down, 5 up shift pattern to GP 1 up 5 down, because almost every bike made in the last 3 decades that is capable of serious speed has reversible shift linkage.

The fact is that every manufacturer of REAL motorcycles offers both options. Most riders just live with how it comes from the dealer and probably have no idea that if they wanted a GP shift pattern all it takes is a 10 mm wrench and 30 seconds of time.
