Aaaah!VW's!My very first vehicle was this 1966!I was 14yrs old and purchased it myself!My dad and i completely restored it from the pan up and removed the gutless stock 1300cc engine and built a 1776cc engine with dual Webber carbs!Still miss this bug still to this day!Unfortunetly i only had the bug for 2 1/2 yr's before i was rear ended hard and hit a car in front of me!The bug was sandwiched and luckily i was ok!My dad was so disgusted and being the professional painter and body man that he was he said there was no purpose in even trying to salvage anything from it!That's when trucks became my life still to this very day!

 

Nice! @ODNAREM my first car was a '68 1600 single port. Dad bought me that instead of fixing the '67 1776 with dual webers.

So Ze, Jim, Cory and Alex deserve a GREAT Thank you. After a day of wheeling and shooting in Lucerne valley, heading to a power line road to go home, my truck caught fire!! I saw what appeared to be steam, stopped to look and saw fire. I called out on the radio and went to open the hood and get my shovel ( I'll get my fire extinguisher next week) couldn't open the hood, started putting dirt as best I could by now the guys came back and went to work. We still couldn't get the hood open so Cory pulled his ax and started trying to break the latch, eventually had to unbolt it. Ze, Jim and Alex did all they could and kept my truck from burning to the ground... Alex towed me to a gas station and All stayed until AAA came. I owe you Guys, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! ALL learn a lesson keep a fire extinguisher handy, don't put it off

 

Damn dude, glad you're okay. Hope the damage isn't too severe? A few weeks ago I was driving to work in my truck and saw smoke coming out from under the hood when I was stopped at a stop light...the wiring harness to my e-fans had started to burn up out of nowhere. Definitely not a pleasant surprise. Fortunately it didn't start a fire but I do have an extinguisher mounted to my roof rack just in case.

What was it that started burning?

we aren t sure what it was but are thinking it was electrical. . I just finished relocating my oil filter, used stainless steel hoses both were still tight so we know it wasn't that, trans cooler hoses were burned but that could have been after it started. yeah we all were safe, glad no one was injured. or ythe truck to the ground.

cant tell but think something in the battery area, lets hope it does, I wont get what I put into it and don't want to start over. I was the only one in the truck the others were ahead on the trail. so glad they came back, good friends

 

No thanks necessary Bob. I know we would've all done the same, for each other. Just glad we all had shovels and could take action quickly. Good luck getting it resolved quickly.

Fire extinguisher is definitely a priority.
