s pod vs s tech which is better.

Hi guys. I want to install a switch system and wanted to know everyones thoughts. seems to me the s pod and s tech are basiclly the same. Any one have a preference to which one they like better.

 

I have no idea about the others mentioned, but installed an Spod on my son's 2018 Taco. It works wonderfully, was not hard to install, and looks very factory-like where I mounted it.

 

I went with Spod and got it in the mail the other day. have not had time to install it. I also got a power tray for mounting it.

 

100% spod !!! Ive been using them for a few years on all my projects even my taco.. easy install and works great

 

I have also been curious about the spod. I’m currently running a switch pros unit as well as a slave panel in the bed of my truck. I have the Switch-Pros unit mounted on a power tray. I like the bantam unit where you can label everything and keep it organized. I also like the touch screen that spod offers.

Other than user preference, is the spod better than the Switch-Pros? Also what’s the difference between the bantam unit and the regular SE unit?

 

I dragged my feet for a long time before I purchased my SPOD and now that I have one I'm more than content.

 

Never really specified what it would be used for other then installing switches.

$500 buys an awful lot of switches, relays, fuse panels, wire, connectors, etc.

The SPod offers low voltage protection, diode protection, overamperage protection per circuit and on the whole. All of this is centrally located. Perhaps the greatest advantage to the SPod in our application was that it came with a small harness to take through the firewall to our switches; this eliminates multiple firewall penetrations even for future add-ons. I was thoroughly impressed with its function. It may not be for everybody, but we love ours.

 

Not to mention you don't have to worry about relays or fuses when wiring in new accessories. Run a positive and a negative and you're done.

 

I agree those are some nice features but that is a pretty hefty price tag for a switching device. The Tacoma has pretty much no way of easily adding wiring through the firewall. There is a small nipple that you can cut on the main harness grommet but you won't be putting many wires through it.

I have a pretty intricate accessory setup and only spent about $300 which gave me 2 gauge power cables to the bed accessory storage pocket, fuse protected off the main battery terminal, two new heavy duty "military spec" terminal clamps, 2 upgraded ground cables that replace the factory ones, Anderson quick connect in the bed, power/ground distribution block with fuses, terminal studs for adding high current devices in the future, 5 relays, switchplate for the cab with a USB charge port, connectors for all ends so you can remove the console and other parts of the harness, accessory wiring, and loom for all of it. Now for another $200 I could have added a switched solenoid and a deep cycle battery to run everything off of so the starting system remains untapped preventing any drain.

So yeah its a nice kit but $500 buys a lot of stuff.

They over charge for it. That's the same knockoff many companies out here sell. But the others usually charger under 100 for it. I noticed it as soon as it became available from caliraised

 

If I got one id buy it from caliraised. I at least know they'll stand behind their products and to me that's worth the extra price. All the others are usually hit or miss and the companies tend to not do anything about it according to a lot of reviews.

 

a light has 2 wires, a relay has 4 places for wire, and a switch has 5 places.. where the F do all the extra wires come from?

Well on my Spod, I can just plug positive and negative, and then I can also dim and strobe any light attached without doing anything. And on the touch screen spod, you can see the voltage that that light/accessory is pulling. Also if you accidentally leave it on, it will turn off automatically while still allowing enough charge in the battery to start the next day. - You try to do all that with your $500 ball of rats nest wire contraption.

Spod stands behind their stuff. I called them to figure out what plugs to connect for my ARB compressor, and they had a guy for that!

 

That price though I do really want an Spod because of the flashy strobe features. Perfect for my mall crawler.

Thats why I wont buy from them.
