Glad you found the slabs. They are not easy to find and not easy to give directions to.

Actually, they are now easy to give directions to. Turn right on North South Road. After Capps Crossing Campground, turn left on the first paved road (Meiss). Then go about a mile to the first gravel road on the left. Take that to the top of the mountain and you can't miss it! :D

As it happens, I'm going to be up in that area tomorrow (Tuesday), so I may go up there in the afternoon to finish picking up the trash we found. Without leather gloves and heavy duty bags, we couldn't safely pickup what appeared to be safety-glass windshield remnants (from a possible rollover ?). Many large pieces of it scattered around. Luckily the 2 boys didn't cut themselves.

One place comes to mind, if you want to camp, and wheel an easy 4wd trail near by, is in the Chrystal Basin area, not too far from the Wentworth Springs entrance to the Rubicon Trail. Camp at the Airport Flats campground. Its right next to Gerle Creek. On the other side of the creek is a section of Wentworth Springs road that is good for stock rigs. Not too long. It ends at a paved road. You can then turn around and do the same road backwards back to camp.

Very popular campground that might need reservations on the weekend.
