There are tons of trails right up in the mountains, but they are all snowed in right now. Hollister is your best bet this time of year since Prairie city is being renovated.

I think I'll pass on Hollister, but will keep an eye out for any local events. By the way, how much for the speedometer lights?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

There really is not local wheelin spots that we hit there all at least an hour from Sac and the good ones are in the Tahoe area.

I'll help you. They're totally easy. Unlike Seth, though, I don't have power tools. The fronts take about an hour using hand tools.

How about a trip up a paved, but unplowed forest road into the snow? We can go up Mormon Emigrant Trail (MET) out of Pollock Pines (alternate Hwy 50 that isn't plowed in the winter)? Everyone goes up there for wheelin' in the winter. Obviously, those with higher clearance will make it further up than the rest of us that are closer to stock. MET, also known on the maps as Iron Mountain Road, is the shortcut in the summer between Hwy 50 and Hwy 88. It used to be plowed in the winter when Iron Mountain Ski Resort was open, but now they close it since no one pays to plow it in the winter (it hits 7K foot elevation at the top). I haven't been up it recently to see how far we can make it since we've got A LOT of snow still at my elevation, but I could check it out this weekend if anyone's interested.

BTW, another fun "snow" road to try if you head to S. Lake Tahoe is to take upper truckee south thru Christmas Valley. It eventually dumps out on Hwy 89. But after it crosses the Upper Truckee River, it's no longer plowed. You won't make it all the way to the top due to snow depth, but it's fun to try.:D

Yuba City here. I'm down in Sac and South Placer all the time and have a place in Truckee so you'll see me at the Tahoe area OHV areas when the snow melts up there. Should be July or August with all the March snowdumps.
