    Hey guys,

I posted this in the general 1'st gen. tacomas' section but I should have put it here:

I'm working on getting my newly purchased 1999 v6 4x4 back to spec. I love this truck and I want it to last another 10 yrs at the least.

    I could use some:

-help with some of the basics in getting it back to spec. I don't have a lot of tools or experience.
-opinions on what makes sense to put money into first.
-advice on where to take it for sound work that is beyond the capabilities of ourselves.

I have beer and a pretty girl that cooks.

I'm in Sacramento right now, but am traveling in Northern California so might could come to where you are.

Home wrenchers or shop wrenchers. Let me know if you are nearby and if at the least you'd be down to meet up for a minute and talk shop. We can figure out compensation for any serious help you provide. Thanks.

What exactly needs to be done? Is it in fair running shape? Or are you just wanting to add new suspension parts and bigger tires?

it's in good running condition. it only has 95k and seems to have been well cared for. but its kinda sluggish on hills. the tires are too big for its gear ratio, but i'm not sure if that accounts for all of it. i'm hoping to get a second opinion.

here's the laundry list i put together so far. don't laugh.

    seafoam it
    clean the throttle bodies
    change the plugs
    clean some sensors
    change pcv valve, if needed?

inner cv's are torn. i'm considering switching to manual hubs, if i can find some.

it has axle wrap and slip yoke binding. i'd like to take out the slip yoke and lube it proper. just lubing the driveshaft seemed to make it a little worse.

mod something to keep the cat from getting stolen, if possible.

the leaf springs in the back are shot and need to be replaced.

at some point, the valve cover gaskets. i tightened the bolts, which were loose, but it remains to be seen if that will solve it.

those are the basics. i just don't have the tools or much experience. i can follow tutorials, sure, but watching someone with experience is priceless. and i don't want to hurt my truck, due to newbie error.

it doesn't all have to be done at once or by the same person.

I know it's mostly noob stuff and is like brushing teeth to most of you. If it's too basic to be of any interest, can someone recommend a shop? I'd rather learn to do these myself, but I'm traveling in the truck right now and need some of them done sooner than later. Here'a pic of the ride. It's got 32's and a 3" lift:

Haha not really :( I've only cleaned my throttle body and changed my plugs. I can't really help you with anything else on the list so you'll have to wait for someone else. Someone should have the first gen FSM that they could probably send you a link to as well.
