    no worries. i'll wait then.

a link to the FSM would help.

and again, i don't necessarily need someone who can do all that. any help is help. that's just my list of everything i want to get done sooner than later.

id say go through all the basic maintenance stuff, sea foam it. Should see improvement there, 32s will slow you down but first gens are not necessarily fast lol.
sucks you gotta worry bout getting your cat stolen

yeah, cats get stolen all the time in california. someone slips under the truck with a hacksaw in the middle of the night. easier on a lifted truck.

Nice ride. Your truck looks nice, too.:D

Check out this thread. If you want to start getting your hands dirty, this is DIY heaven. These trucks are simple to work on.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1s...y-how-thread-compiled-list-helpful-links.html

I've been in Sac for years, and frankly, I've never found a shop I've been completely happy with. I did use this place in Auburn once years ago for a major service on my 93, and I was happy with them:
    http://www.mastertechnicians.net/

The plugs should make a decent difference if they are overdue. Use the stock Denso ones for best results.

Clean air filter is a good idea too. Maximize air flow. Doesn't' get cheaper or easier.

For cleaning the MAF, be sure to use MAF cleaner, not TB cleaner or anything else, or you will wreck it.

The TB is best cleaned off the truck, rather than on. It is pretty easy. You need a new metal crush gasket. it is not reusable, but cheap from the dealer. I have some pics in my gallery with part numbers, and lots of people have done this. Should be in the DIY thread, too.

For a little tiny bit of more power, you can try the deck plate mod (see DIY thread). It's about the only thing that has proven results.

Has this truck ever had the timing belt replaced? It is due every 90k miles, and if you aren't confident, you should have a shop do it. Probably run you about $500.

    it's a bouncy ride for sure ;)

i don't know why, but finding an honest/competent shop in california is hard to do. i grew up in detroit and all you needed there, to get work done on a car, was to have a cold six pack and not be a complete dick.

i did have the timing belt done right away.

and a week ago, down south, i had all the fluids changed and new plugs put in. now, i've noticed the mpg has gone down. it makes me wonder if the guy gapped the plugs properly. they are OE densos though, which i read come pre-gapped.

    new air filter as well.

thanks for all the links, and especially the FSM.

i'm in a hotel in sac right now and don't have any tool sets with me. besides my lack of experience, that's why i was hoping to find someone local to help me do these things. and also to have someone else (with a v6 4x4) tell me what they thought about the power issue.

i'll still need a shop or someone else to do the axles and rear leafs.

either way, it will all get done. these trucks are worth saving.

True. Once at the dealer I was buying six. I opened and visually checked everyone one before I left.

Two were way off, and not just minor gap, but the outer electrodes were completely misaligned with the center electrode, and would have been difficult, if not impossible, to adjust. I rejected them and asked for two more. Plus the correct gapping gauge must be used on these scalloped electrodes:

yeah, that's what i figured. and i'm guessing the guy didn't check them before he put them in. the genius also gave me my truck back a quart low on ATF.

so then yeah, the plugs need to be pulled and checked. i want to seafoam it anyway, so after that.

    For sure.

Anyone out there in sac have a place to seafoam it, and clean the TB and plugs? I can't fog out the hotel parking lot or clean the TB in the lobby. ;). We can film the seafoam and post it.
