It could be a hell of a lot better...... As of this moment, I have 42 applications submitted, am on my 3rd round of looking through all the companies on my list of 546 companies/government entities. A few rejections / position has been filled responses, but so far no contact about setting up any interviews. Unfortunately, this is common in my experience. The very shortest job search period I have ever had was 4+ months, the longest was 17 months. As of today, it has been exactly 1 month.

The Information Technology field is so diverse today, even though there are zillions of IT jobs out there, most are for software developers or SAP support roles - neither of which I have any experience with. Another big disadvantage I have, is that for the first 15 years of my career, the idea of "certification" was extremely rare, and employers didn't care, as long as you had the actual experience. Today, experience means almost nothing, it's all about what certifications you have. I have none, and they are far too $$$$$ to pay for on my own, so I don't have that option. Argh.

I know I'll find something. My only real worry is that it happens before we have to pack up and move in with my in-laws and try to sell this house before it goes into foreclosure. I have applied for a hardship deferral on the mortgage but it is still pending. I only got 1 month of severance pay, so things could get real tight real soon if I don't find the next gig real soon, or at least get the mortgage deferral granted for a few months.

KY Unemployment people are still waiting my last employer's response regarding my claim for unemployment benefits before they will stat paying me anything, so I don't have that in place yet. Interestingly enough, I did get a "preliminary benefits award letter" from them a couple weeks ago showing me how much I will get per week. I last received unemployment from California in 2012, and I received the (then) max benefit at $450/week. I was thinking KY, being a far lower cost of living, and far lower median annual income state than CA, I would get a good bit less that I did in CA. Thankfully, I was wrong! Once they get it all cleared up and start sending me the money, I will be getting $665/week. Even that won't pay the mortgage, but it will pay my wife's car payment and groceries, so we should be ok for a couple more months if everything works out.
