I know mods don't really add value when trading in to a dealer, but what if they are OEM? Other than cat shields and a generic pro grill/garnish, all my mods are OEM: pro shift knob, pro tail lights, pro skid plate, black exhaust tip, and remote tailgate unlock. I still have the stock versions of all those parts. Would you recommend I put it all back to stock and sell the OEM parts separately, or will the dealer take at least a bit of the extra value into consideration? It would be worth my time to just leave it as-is, if I can recover at least a portion of the value.

Those mods will likely not move the needle at the dealer

I was afraid of that. I could probably swap the skids, the taillights, and the shift knob in an hour or less so probably worth the hassle to sell separately.

Dealer wont care to pay. They don't care as a private buyer would.

    You can always negotiate.

There may be a bit of value in your stock parts...

It takes five min for tailights and skid plate
    Id take those off...

Take everything off and sell it. The dealer will probably like a stock truck better as well.

If you have the time remove the bits and sell for beer money. The Dealer wont give you Jacksh!t for them. Too bad it isnt the Meso Pro shift knob, I would buy that from you

    This!
unless it's a specialty car lot, most dealers prefer to buy and sell stock vehicles, it simplifies and speeds the transactions. Dealers make more money on quick smooth transactions,,, any slow downs cost them big money (space, manpower, taxes, insurance, interest, etc).

Enjoy the kiddos! You are wise to move on, while a great smallish truck, a family hauler it is not.

At first glance when I read this response, I thought I saw "I could probably swap the kids..." Whoa, extreme and not advised, but I suppose. lol

Thankfully I’m staying as close to a Tacoma as I can and getting a 4Runner.

Very nice choice! My GF has a 2017 and it is a nice truck. While I don't have kids, I think it would be great for kids,,,, of course it's well built, reliable AF, and is plenty capable for truck stuff too.

Happy Trials, don't be a stranger just cause you don't have a truck bed :)

It's either money down the drain or beer money if you have the time / desire to remove and sell. I'd let em go and feel OK about it as you got some enjoyment out of them.

your upgraded parts will sell here, your stock stuff, not so much, and they will end up with you throwing them away. Your dealer wont even notice

I’m starting to reconsider my Tacoma. I have been looking at tundras lately. So do you think The 4 Runner really has that much more room?

The 4R felt a lot roomier when I had my kids sit in the back for a drive. Not sure how much more space it really is but if my kids will happily sit back there for longer trips I’m all in.

My experience...I went from a Tundra with a few extra's I added over the years to my Tacoma. I pulled the seat covers, rear aftermarket bumper, tonneau, and NFab steps before I sold the Tundra. That was August of '22. I've ended up with pennies on the dollar and I still have the NFab steps in my backyard. My approx. $2500 spent netted me $400 so far and I'm storing two side steps that I paid $650 for that I can't even give away after almost two years.

Well you do have all the cargo behind the kids, get one now before Toyota screws them up!

Thanks for the insight. We still have our 08 FJ, we love it. The rear seat is worse than the Tacoma

I spent 17 hours pulling all the mods off my truck this winter when I traded it in. I cashed out a little under 13k seeking my stuff, I lost in total about 3000 ish on my mods. The dealership wouldn't have given me anything for my mods if they didn't deduct money for them.
