Sounds like a Tacoma was never the right truck for your needs. Hope your new ride does better for you.

It's no taco, and it drives like a dump truck, but what can you do, purpose before pleasure....It'll work for me..

Yea I had a 92 with a 351w, made to a 383 skr. Plus 11psi rammed down it's throat with a built trmek and voilia, tires hook and pop no more rear window.

I expect the abuse im on a taco forum, if i went to a powerstroke forum, Id be getting....."good you go rid of that baby truck" it's no big deal.

I will say the 8 ft bed is so worth it tho, and for the price i got it for is amazing.

I just priced out a Dodge Ram 3500 dually 4x4 with the Cummins Turbodiesel engine, crew cab, 8 foot bed, auto trans, and a selection of options. It's only $53,500...

Not much of a Ford man myself. We have the E-350 for our new ambulance, and it's not a bad engine, but 3 months in it was leaking power steering fluid. Awesome for a new vehicle with less than 25000 highway kms on it.

Now the Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel we had for my other work. No issues on those that I've found yet.

Either way, good to hear you found a vehicle that matches your needs. If I had to heavy haul, I wouldn't have got a tacoma. I'd be shopping domestic diesels too.

Cummins is a BAMF, But the truck it's self, Is just junk. We had one in our company, Cracking dash, Allways had TPMS problems, And lost the Auto Tranny @ 80k Other than that, Cummins is a great engine.

the cummins is an amazing motor, but the trans are garbage, although the new 68RE is pretty stout. I don't love them, the new body style which i was gonna get was nice, but cant get an AC, just a full crew but it's jst too big.

I got mine for lower mid 30's which for a diesel is great. Sure it's no taco but will suit my needs

ryan, sounds like you bought a great work truck. first time you haul that same load, you will love the decision.

i almost bought a dodge 2500 diesel. i imagined needing it to pull a race car to newfoundland. just couldnt pull the trigger for such a specific need. i live in a crowded area. a big truck would kill me.

    good luck ryan.

I work construction and I have to say that Tacoma's aren't 4x8 sheetgood friendly, especially with a toolbox. But I'd rather pull a trailer when I need it than drive that monstrosity full time. Just saying.

I tried that but it's such a pain, I do rehabs and I am constnatly running to supply house for 3 of these or 19 of those....and to have the trailer with me all the time was the issue...I'd have to run to the lot to go grab it.

Congrats on the new truck. If I needed a full size truck that would be my choice.

Oh, and to the P.O.S. comments. Shake them off. Or challange them to hook up hitch to hitch and see what that p.o.s. can do.

    Rain Visors,
I looked at the tundras first, but I wanted an Access Cab with a long bed, the dealer lookd at me like I was nuts, and told me they are few and very far between. Wouldnt budge on price, esp cause they had to locate one, and were killing me on my trade.

I don't take the critiscism to heart, it happens, fords are fords, some have issues there was a huge issue with the 6.0L the forums exploded but i put 80k problem free miles on mine.

And as for all the "issues" ford has. i think that elephant in the room is holding a gas pedal, a rotted first gen frame, a rust prone spare tire cable, and a recall list a few million names long......so to each their own.

And as for the the bumper to bumper pull to see what my POS could do....the Superduty weighs double what my taco did. Im sure ill have some issues, and if it doesnt get 300K oh well, I wouldnt have driven the taco that long either...

As for the fox body....The lowest I got was 12.6 I could never get it to hook up right, I was young and went nuts with a jegs catalog. It was in the VERY hight 600 hp numbers, but I wasn't an engine builder. That motor exploded after about 500 miles....The stroker kit, combined with a low cc chamber, with all the boost, cause way too high of a compression ratio. ANd I beat it bad.....so about 3 weeks after I popped the rear glass, i blew the passenger side head clean off and a rod strait down though the pan.....Young ignorance was fun and $$....it sounded bad ass and got me laid though =)

I feel your pain. As much fun as my Tacoma is, it's not a very good work truck.

The F250 is a very capable truck and sounds like it fits what you need.

congrats on the new truck.ive been looking at some used f250 powerstrokes myself. you have to get what fits your needs. dont listen to all the haters here. how can the f250 be the worst rated truck ever when all i see are f250 on the road.most construction companies and landscape companies use the f250 and f350.way more f250s than tacamas on the road.f250 is a "REAL WORK TRUCK". the tacoma is good enough for home depot run on the weekends.your not hauling a bed full of gravel in a plastic bed tacoma.

For his usage and purpose, he made the right decision. You can't compare tacoma to a full size truck in power capacity, apples to oranges.

Consumer Reports? Take that for what it is worth.

OP, good luck with the new truck. If you can have your cake and eat it too, you'll have another Tacoma someday.
