    Thank you.
I find my worst times are thinking about the good times and how I will miss spending time with him.

Dad said to remember when things are good they’re not as good as they seem and when things are bad they’re not as bad as they seem. I never really knew exactly what he meant when he said to “give her the kazoo” I’ll ask him about that when I see him, again

    Yea I’m a dad and a grandpa.
My dad was 78 I’m 52 and the exact replica of the old man. I love them as he loved us. He smoked and drank but was not mean.
And I follow in his foot steps to the T.
I would have a hard time finding more than a few who had bad words about him.
He would help anyone who asked and those that didn’t but looked like they did.
Looks like I’ll be making some changes but he had a good life and did it till the end.
He went in peace in his garage with his toys.

Then you are well on your way. If you are the grandad already, he surely passed some grandad traits on to you. You are also very lucky to have had 4 generations of family at one time. Remember that. Best wishes to you, sir.

I'd be curious about that. Having grown up in Kalamazoo - Kazoo - town of jokes and songs. When I moved to Texas, I found that little girls who were "bad", would be threatened with being sent to Kalamazoo..... And I had several Kazoos....

    Work in progress...
My Dad bought me a sky blue 71 FJ40. We changed out motor with a 250 Chevy. That was back in October 1982, about this time of year. My Dad was a truck driver and he earned every nickel that he ever spent. I was not the best son. I focused on myself and never appreciated my Dad. I always tried to do things better than my Dad did them. I laugh at myself about that now. Dad left us two years ago, about this time of year. I no longer try to be better than anyone. I think if we learn, even though it may take some longer than others, our Dad's did their job...

    Dammmm
    My dad would say this!
    But he told me why!
When things are good don’t take it for granted because it can go bad.
When they are bad don’t give up because it can get better.

I’d kinda forgot this shit man thank you!

Never tried to one up the old man I don’t think.
He was always willing to let me make my own mistakes after offering his advice. Didn’t throw it in face but would say ok let’s try this!

Can’t thank everyone enough letting the world know how great a guy he was and your thoughts and kind words definitely have helped through a rough spot!
I am strong for mom but have weak moments alone!

Thanks for catching up, and do be concerned with your mom. I am assuming they spent a LONG time together, and it is I VERY difficult for the surviving spouse. Mom was in a home within a few years, and if you think it was difficult for you, please be aware that you may need to "head things off". I wish you all the best.

    Check My Sig.
I've been following this thread and I'm very sorry about your loss. It's unfortunate that these things happen but it's apart of life and we all have to be ready. I wish the best for you and your family.

This is a tuff topic, however my father passed away last July. It was an unexpected loss with no medical precursors other than high blood pressure. (nothing out of the ordinary for a 56 yr. old.) It's been a very difficult year or so, however my two sisters and I have never been more close. You have to support each other and grow together.

In hindsight, there are so many things that I wish I took the time to discuss with him and even more things that I regret but I have to look at the situation as an opportunity to carry his teachings on. Remember the good times and use the bad ones as lessons. You've got kids and I'm sure he enjoyed every part of being Grandpa.

Im 27 now. Neither myself or my older sister have children yet but my "stepsister" did. Seeing him enjoy being a grandparent was truly an enjoyment and I'm glad that he got the opportunity.

The only thing I have to pass along is "don't be afraid to let yourself grieve." Be strong for your family if you have to but fighting your weak moments will only catch up. A friend of mine told me this being he lost his father a few years ago. It's been very helpful.
