Ugh…Parents worst fear. Very thankful that your son is alive and will recover. We will keep him and all others in our thoughts and prayers along with our hopes for a quick and equitable solution from the insurance company.

That is why the California highway patrol advises to stay out of the fast lane, #1, at night. Because even if they get on going the wrong way they still keep to the right.o_O

Scary stuff , word of advice....you will need to fight the insurance company these trucks are worth money , do not lay down on this fight ,fight fight. I was t boned inan intersection and totaled my first gen. The insurance company gave me a new car to drive then the battle begun. This took a total of 3 month. I would not settle with their lowball money and i was unable to present receipts. At the 3 month term of having the new car and i drove the hell out of it they called me and we hafta settle this.they let me pull 3 comps from ebay and craigslist and showed how much i was gonna hafta pay to replace and they paid me. Goodluck

Thanks for posting. My oldest granddaughter will be 16 less than 4 months. Something else to stay up and worry about.

First, so relieved he's escaped any worse injury. 4-6 months is a road to travel but given the circumstances it's not bad at all.

That said, I'll skip thoughts re the truck as I think it's been said enough.

How on earth does someone drive the wrong way and not know about it? Seems like that person shouldn't be driving.

    Glad he’s doing ok!
My 08 was totaled by a kid running a red, T-boned me and insurance paid top dollar.
Best wishes for his recovery and insurance pay out!
My insurance didn’t want me dealing with his insurance and handled it 100%.

A blessing he is and will be okay. What a scare. My father was a tow truck operator for our county and I got to see many terrible wrecks over the years that he brought in, it was always a very potent reminder that there are lots of careless people on the road and to stay alert respond swiftly but calmly to danger.
I also am wondering about the bumper and how much protection it offered in a serious collision like this - maybe would have been much more severe without it.

Take care and give him all our best

Glad your son is ok, did the airbags deploy in the Tacoma? I always wonder that they will deploy properly on an older vehicle. Can’t tell from the picture.

I'm 76 yo and am on my 4th Tacoma, in my lifetime!! That said, I ran with my local Volunteer Rescue Squad, in the distant past, and saw Fatalities in head-on collisions like this, with far LESS vehicle damage!!

It's plain to me the Lord was with your son that night and that He still has plans for your son!!

Healing from open Fx's can be long and painful, with weeks of Physical Therapy, but with Family/Friends support, he'll persevere!!

Do not let insurance companies of the guilty-parity or her lawyers take advantage of you, as his recovery can be long lasting!!

Prayers your way, and may you all have a Blessed Life:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Jeez. I had a similar wreck around the age of 18.

We just went through my son having surgery on his leg at the start of this summer.

    1) Get him one of these from Amazon for the shower
    upload_2023-10-2_6-40-15.png

    2) Get him a nice foldable support to prop his foot up on when he's using the bathroom.

    3) Take the PT seriously. The easy (stupid-seeming) stuff at the beginning is important because it leads into the rest - and keeps the muscles strong and ready for the next steps in PT.

My son made a full recovery and has restarted practicing with his sports team (they are #1 ranked in our state and 5th on the east coast).

    =-=-

You've got a lot of milestones infront of you. Wish you guys all the best and tell him to work hard.

@GSDLVR123 I'm glad your son is okay. That looks like one hell of a wreck. I hope he, and the others life flighted, make full recoveries. I can't imagine the relief you and your family felt when you got the all clear for him.

One question, though: when are you gonna show him the forum and bring him into the fold? o_O:boink:
