After dealing with the failed manual for 4 months, and having NO assurance from Toyota corporate that the replacement Taco I ordered would not have the same issue, I've had to lemon law it and get 2nd choice. My wife is not secure driving a car that loses 2, 4, 6 gear for no reason! Loved the Taco, but can't trust it. Got the new Ranger Raptor, and after 1,500 miles it's been great. I know this is a Taco fan boy forum, and I know better than to enrage this passionate crowd, (and I know many will say Ford quality sucks, etc.). I'll just say we are very happy with the swap. Quite the upgrade! Long-travel suspension and a front locker.

They had a TSB to fix that. Should have got the TSB done on the original truck rather than order a whole nother truck. I hardly think that qualifies it as a lemon, but oh well.

Regarding your three replies 1.) DOY on the TSB. I was the first to report it to Toyota back in April, I worked intimately with Toyota and they created the TSB based on my input! 2.) I DID get the transmission replaced, it took them 4 months. It was a rattle trap after that, all kinds of new rattles after the fix. I covered my bases with back up plan and had second truck waiting on me. 3.) And lemon law rules include three qualifiers, one of which is if the vehicle is in the shop for 30 days total in the first 12 months of ownership, it qualifies.

I think you did the right thing. The Taco wasn’t the same after they ripped it apart. Enjoy your Raptor. Who knows but maybe down the road the new Taco will improve, first year of a new gen is always a risk. As for resale down the road if you decide to change the Raptor will do ok.

Sweet new truck! Hope you enjoy the heck out-of-it!!

As first time Tacoma owner with my 3rd Gen, Toyota's redesigns on the newer Tundra & Tacoma, they are no longer #1 or #2 respectively on my list any longer.

I’m aware of the trouble you went through with your truck being out of commission for a while, while they worked on the TSB. You were mentioning wanting another truck before the TSB happened and so I assumed that you didn’t have the TSB performed on your first truck.

It is unfortunate that the TSB caused rattles. I don’t know how that happens from a transmission replacement. Other than taking apart the shifter they shouldn’t be touching anything that would cause a rattle.

The RRaptor is really a sweet truck. They also announced a warrantied tune that bumps power to 455 hp and 536 lb-ft. Congrats.

I think you made the right choice!
If the Ranger Raptor came with a manual….it would have been my #1 choice!

Enjoy the new Raptor. Sounds like Toyota didn't earn your business. I would do the same thing. 4 months....get outta here with that nonsense.

So you LL'd your manual Tacoma, but you traded it for an automatic Raptor instead of just getting a new automatic Tacoma? Ok...
