Had these guys over today to replace a cracked windshield. I noticed after they left that the drivers side trim on top doesn’t fully cover the glass and there’s a noticeable gap.
For those of you smarter than I, will this cause water intrusion? Should I even bother having them come back out to fix it? Having to take time off work to get this done is a pain.

If you're not satisfied, then yes they need to make it right.

I know Safelite does have a mobile service, depending on where you live. That maybe an option??

This is the practical answer that I was hoping to avoid :rofl:scheduling is tight for me at the moment. I know this is the correct answer but on some level I was hoping someone could rationalize my laziness!

They came out to my house today. But I still need to take time off to do it.

You might as well let them fix it.
I bet the fix is to take a plastic trim tool and wedge it between the roof and trim, and pry the trim down back onto the windshield.
I'm not at all tell you this is what you should do. But I have a feeling this is the "fix" that gets tried first.

Wouldn’t fly in my book, make them come to your place of work.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Did you actually test it?

    Do so before it rains.

And no need to take time off work unless you're out and about then that'd make sense.

I've had safelite replace a windshield with my car at work before.

FWIW, I had SafeLite replace my windshield.
I requested PPG glass, when I got it back. It was not PPG. It was a brand made in Mexico.
They replaced it again with the glass I requested. Been fine since. I they did what they said, so I'm happy.

The trim is held where it is with caulking. I tried budging it myself but no dice.

Excellent idea. Except I work in a hospital with those crowded parking structures. I’m just going to have to make more time again to have them come out to fix it again

Dude, it's a corporation, they make millions of dollars... I understand, it may be a tad inconvenient, but if you are not happy! Then have them fix it properly.
Edit... I would make them come out on a Sunday afternoon, and I would supervise every move. Making sure it was done properly.

There is "a lot" of glue/sealant around the windshield for sure. The guy that did mine the second time was super cool.
He let me back in the shop with him while he did mine. He glued the shit out if mine. He even glued down one of the black strips that goes across the roof.
One of mine had started to pop up on the front next to the windshield.

I would have them fix it.

They did mine in the parking lot at work, and besides having an unbroken windshield and paperwork on my seat, I would have never known they were there.

PPG has not been in the glass business for over a decade now. And these days you're lucky to get glass made in Mexico because most of the aftermarket stuff is chinese garbage.

    You are correct.
I have PGW, I don’t know why I was thinking PPG.
My understanding PGW has ties to the old PPG, but I don’t know that as fact.

Can you go to a toyota dealership and get original glass installed? If not, who does a dealership use?

Most dealerships - and I work at one - do not do glass replacement themselves unless they have their own collision shop. (And even that's not a guarantee.) Most simply sub-contract the work out to a mobile windshield replacement service. As for what brand of glass you get, that's between you and the dealership. If you don't specify OEM glass, you will get aftermarket because it's cheaper. And finally, the overall quality of the job has a lot to do with the actual installer.

Thanks for that! Can you specify OEM class with most mobile glass installers ?

That is unacceptable, I have over 29 year experience replacing auto glass. And you should not accept anything less than a remove and relay.

LKQ Corporation bought PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) auto glass in 2016. Then changed the name to PGW (Pittsburgh Glass, Works) they also sold the flat glass division in 2016 to Vitro

IMO Pilkington is the best choice with Fuyao as my second choice

I’m calling them today to have them comeback and fix it. I’ll just have to bite the bullet on another half day of work. I appreciate everyone’s input on slapping some sense into me
