Your first sentence says the OP might experience lower fuel economy and reduced performance, your very next sentence then says the truck will compensate and that the OP will not experience any fuel economy or performance loss.

Can't have it both ways. Any yes your quoted post above is in its entirety, no deflecting on how your post was manipulated.

I mostly only run E0 85 in my 21 Tacoma. It won't hurt it. 90 octane isn't necessary, but the lack of ethanol is worth it.

I consistently track 15% better mileage with E0, making it cheaper per mile than mid grade corn gas.

This is great...... It's like every other argument that ever took place in the internet. Small bits of knowledge leading to extreme conviction and then everyone has to see it your way or it goes to personal attacks. This is actually an argument that can easily be solved with five minutes and a Google search.

Oops.. I was thinking of nitro. Nitro requires way less oxygen than gasoline.

I do agree with you about it being political BS.

I was using E15 for awhile because it was a little cheaper and my fuel economy didn't suffer noticeably from it. But lately it's only a $.03 difference so I use E10 (ethanol free isn't an option in Wisconsin unless you run premium).

I pretty much run exclusively ethanol free gas which is typically 90 or 89 Octane rated.

Octane is just the fuels resistance to detonation, it is, to my knowledge, pretty much always okay to run higher than required octane, but not the other way around.

If you put 100 octane in a car that only needs 87 it will run just fine but you're throwing away money.

If you run 87 octane in a car that requires 'premium' 90+ oct because it has a higher compression ratio like a turbo or supercharged application you will get poor performance and potentially knock and detonation or ping which can damage your engine, at best you will have a significant reduction in performance as all the timing advancement will be pulled back.

I notice much better economy and slightly better power when running ethanol free.

It's also typically cleaner and doesn't gunk op the fuel delivery system, cylinders, or cats.

    Just my experience though.

That's hard to believe. It would need to be near 50% ethonol to gain that much fuel economy.

On production cars you can run lower octane. Once the ecu sees a few hits of detonation it will determine it has low octane and put the ecu into the low octane timing map. So you lose power but still safe.

My point was that op is perfectly fine to run premium nonoxy because the computer will compensate for fuel differences... The absolute worst thing that could possibly happen (but it's not likely) is worse performance than running the Toyota recommended fuel, meaning it can't possibly harm his truck to run premium nonoxy.

And yes, you are still manipulating what I said by ignoring the worst case, and more likely qualifiers in my original post.

I agree with that he will be fine. My intention was always to make that point. In hindsight I should have just stated OP is good, and the computer will compensate in my original post.

I can't figure for the life of me why we need all corn blended fuels here in connecticut, especially here in in nw connecticut. Theres nothing wrong with our air. Even in the most populated cities in the state its not all that bad. There should be an option in counties like ours.

How about it takes more energy for the grow-to-pump cycle for corn than is displaced in gas production?

Along with the added bonus of ~10% drop in MPG? (I base this on detailed personal monitoring of my street driven SCCA car for thousands of miles over a number of years.)

The idea was sold on the concept of energy independence, yet now we are back in OPECs pocket.

Sounds like a political bonfire to me.

But back to the original question.

    Safe? Yes.

You have to do your own math and performance monitoring to determine if it's worth the cost and effort to chase it down it though. (if you leave town)

Prediction. You'll have no real MPG based ROI. But your butt meter will tell you it runs better, because your butt is prejudiced in that way.

Yep, ain't it a great feeling to be energy dependent again? Guess $2 per gal. was all wrong....can't have that.
