Nobody likes a dealer but an RV dealer should be able to set up a hitch for something like this. A weight distribution hitch needs to be set up beyond just inserting it into the receiver. That also puts some responsibility on the dealer for making sure you have a safe set up and are not going to drive through Kansas in a vehicle that will get blown from lane to lane .

Unless you are pulling a camper with no food, water, or gear, I'd look for something like 18 feet. Water alone will add 250 pounds, so never pull with full tanks. I would start with the smallest 2 axle trailer and consider why you can't make it work.

Do yourself a favor and get a WDH and learn how to adjust and set it up properly yourself. If you get it from the dealer, and they set it up for you, dont trust that they did it correctly. And your adjustment may need to be changed depending on how you're loaded up. Itll make a huge difference. Also, if you're serious about getting a TT, go ahead and install a brake controller. I recommend RedArc, because it's a clean and hidden install, but there really isnt a "bad" brake controller.

    Happy camping!

OP - Are you inquiring about towing with a bumper hitch or a class IV receiver tow package?

I was pretty close to 6,000 pounds and towed this little Ranger above Salt Lake back to Blythe. There are better trucks for this job. When I started on my journey I was not too sure if the Blue Taco was going to "pull it off." After I managed to get through the Salt Lake construction and traffic the trip was not too bad. Down hill really surprised me. Low gears hold the speed down with very little use of the brakes. Only a few times, when some dumbass cut in front of me and slammed on their brakes, did I smell the brakes. Just leave plenty of room for safety because these brakes are not made to stop anything close to 6,000 extra pounds. But, yeah, 6,000 pounds, hopefully not through big city traffic, is about the limit.

I have a 2017 TRD Sport (came with tow package). We tow a KZ 180RBT travel trailer with it. I figure I’m at about 4000 maybe a little less. Have a Redarc Brake controller (did an install write up on it a while back). As some others mentioned - get a good weight distribution hitch and set it up right. Makes all the difference!

You’ll tow in S mode with ECT on. The truck likes 4th gear and is designed for it. It’ll run fine at 60-65 in 4th which is about max you’ll want to do towing. If terrain is really flat you could bump it into S5, but I rarely do that. I get about 12-14 MPG towing.

I’d stay under 4500 if you want to be comfortable. Truck will do more, but over long distances and over mountains the journey probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable.
