When I picked up the truck I noticed that I had a significant amount of new engine bay/induction noise now in the cab like something wasn’t put back together correctly. I pulled the cowl only to find out they broke all the tabs on it and had taped it down with 3m. I’m beyond pissed so I’m going to try and get my money back I don’t want them to fix it because I don’t want them to touch my truck again.

Does anyone have photos of inside the cowl where the cab fresh air intake is. I feel like it’s missing a part. Is anything suppose to clip into those two open holes on the lip of of that sheet metal at the top of the intake.

    TIA

same company dropped a windshield on my obs ford cowl during a window glass replacement a few years ago ... i even treated the repair technician to a bottled snapple after completion... nothing was mentioned about the dented metal cowl ... regional company manager did not want to fess up to damage until i got my insurance company involved ... after that ... yes sir and very polite responses .... idiots...

Do you have the (2) #4 cowl top panel braces?

Yeah pro tip, remove the cowl, wipers, and trim yourself. Then watch the repair. You're the only person on earth who cares about every single tab and clip.

My insurance basically only pays for Safelite... if I want oem glass I have to pay the difference which is huge. Safelite will come to my driveway, where I can have the truck prepped. The fit isn't usually as good but it works, and new glass beats old sandblasted glass when driving into the sun or with bright oncoming headlights. I change the glass every few years, whenever the glare gets bad. No cost thru insurance, safety item.

I don't see them. That would be under the cowl right since it's a brace?

I'm not sure what would cause the increase in induction noise like my intake got 4 times louder the only thing I can think of that could cause that is the fresh air intake from that cowl to the cab. If the windshield wasn't sealed right maybe that's the issue idk. It's not leaking I just got rained on but maybe because its sealed good at the top and not the bottom.

I feel your pain Safelite did the same damage and never told me anything. Went with another glass company and they pointed it out to me Safelite is a terrible company. If they were a good company they would make sure they're doing quality work.

Which one did you go with? I’ve been driving around with a cracked windshield for 6 years lol.

OP, it might just be the lower quality aftermarket glass and molding if this is your first replacement.

    None.
Safelite … just say no. IIRC; they needed eight visits to replace the windshield in my Honda Element. Air leaks, water leaks, broke the windshield trim and tried to hide the damage. I roasted them with a Yelp review.

These windshields are low quality. I farted with all the windows up and cracked mine.

Wow that sucks. I’ve used them for half dozen windows and never had issues, though never a Taco and all were 6+ years ago.

Safelite is a bunch of hacks. They ruined the a-pillar trim on one of my cars. Made a mess of the sealant on another. A friend of mine had her car in the shop for months because they couldn't calibrate the sensors.
Find a local shop. If insurance company won't cover it, find another insurance company. Also get OEM glass if possible, otherwise you might get incorrect/missing tint.

The clips on the cowl are fn wimpy!
I was super careful but still broke one of them.
Truck had a lot of Pine needles on top of vents. Pretty clean underneath so I broke it cause I’m an idiot.

Off the wall guess here, and just gonna play devil's advocate; maybe they cleaned out 3 lbs of leaves and pine straw from that intake and now its clean and not clogging outside noise :notsure:

I didn't have any issues when I did a mobile install from them. I hung out with the guy and helped him do it lol. Since I had my ditch lights on he wanted an extra hand.

Roll up all the windows, put air on recirculate, fan on high and close all the doors.
Spray soapy water all around windshield. If they missed a spot (with urethane) you'll see it.
