My sentiments too. Some of us think that our Tacomas are about the right compromise between off-road and on-road capability. I appreciate having a bit of ground clearance when I need it out hunting and occasionally go mess around on the river for fun. However, I don't really need a top-heavy, lifted mudder or rock crawler to tow my utility trailer or go get the groceries.

I'll wait and see what Toyotas fix is. If all they do is put a clip or clamp on I'll buy a set of Dakars and have Toyota reimburse me:thumbsup:

Well I'm hoping for the new leafs. Mine have the second set on already of the so called "beefed up 3 pack" and right now with no weight on back, my springs are flat across. (to the point I was under it the other day wondering what was clunking and realized if there is no spring left in them, the box clunks on each bump.) I saw a local guy on the beach with his Ford Ranger with a load of wet Irish Moss on the back and his truck set level. :-(

I would really doubt that. The recall is because of the possibility of breakage and puncturing the gas tank. So if they only replaced broken ones they wouldn't be satisfying the purpose of the recall. Then again, I guess I wouldn't put it past a bunch of suits in a board room to do that.

But if they put a clip on the old leaf packs preventing a broken leaf from puncturing the fuel tank then they have fixed the problem. The problem is a fire, not a broken leaf. A broken leafpack isn't a liability to them or Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, and probably all the other motor companies would have had a lot more recalls over the years.

My TSB pack has spring clips preventing this issue. My Wheelers 3 leaf progressive AAL also has clips... funny with 4 sets of clips the leaves still used to jump around from time to time.

For reimbursement, Toyota would probably require you to produce documentation (e.g. repair order) that shows the leafs were cracked before Sept 29, 2014, the day the recall was announced.

    Consider:
    • Toyota hasn't mentioned any metallurgical or coating improvements post Oct 2010. A non-cracked leaf pack pre-Oct 2010 is therefore equally susceptible to cracking as a post-Oct 2010 leaf pack.
    • It's stated in the dealer notification FAQ that 5-lugger leaf packs are still susceptible to cracking, but aren't recalled, because the SUA arrangement prevents a broken leaf from being positoned to puncture the fuel tank.

Here's something to make you laugh. Went out and cleaned up my airbags and springs. My Toyota springs have some rust but no cracking. However, my AAL is separating. V shaped sections are peeling up (no its not the paint, it's actual metal).

All I can get from Toyota is the fix is pending. I'm hoping for replacement springs for the pathetic 3 leaf system due to the 'possibility' of spring breakage, and Toyotasan not wanting to cough up another billion $$$$$$ fine. I don't believe they even sell the 3 leaf system anymore. Anybody know for sure?

As far as I know it's still the same leaf pack they are putting on Tacomas in the factory. Only a few of the models get the 4 leaf pack from the factory.

I wonder what will happen in my case since I cut off the clips on the 4 leaf TSB springs to install Icon AAL.

They will know you have spring clips on your TSB pack and you will not be included in the recall is my guess....
