    Thanks for the advice Windsor.

Greatly appreciated.....as much as the ability to let off a little steam.

It isn't about the money to me. (at all...I know:eek:)
I wasn't even going to sweat them for the previous ones.....maybe 50% I would have expected.

I love my truck, and it is just a shame that they saw fit to not just make it right with a new set of springs and have me on Team Happy.

    Much thanks.

Next, and now obviously most important question....

what are these airbags you speak of?
    Timbrens?

What's a good resource for a complete know nothing to find a lasting, high quality solution so I can love my truck again?

ALso, am I endangering my and my little dude's life by driving around with a pipe clamp on my spring till I get it figured out?

It Sounds as if the dealer you used was no piece of work. Perhaps another Dealer my be much more helpful? Some Dealers are Great Some are not. Some only help when you stand at the door with a pile of cash in your hand .... otherwise they just play stupid.

No, the letter is not required for service. However, they haven't sent out the letter saying that service will begin. Just the one that says they are in the process of getting ready. If you take your truck to a dealer before they have the parts and are authorized to do the work, they probably will say you need to wait.

    UPDATE:

The alternate dealer whose people were very helpful (and sympathetic at least) from the beginning was trying to set up an appointment with the Regional Manufacturer's Rep to look at my truck and make a determination.......I declined (principle).

Well...I was passing by their place yesterday (hour away), Saturday, so I decided to pop in and give them a chance to take some pics and then work this out with the Rep.

They were barely even shocked that I just walked in. They took my truck right back into the bays and asked me to please have a seat and a coffee while they tried to see what they could do.

An hour later the Service Manager came out to tell me that Toyota had decided to replace both my springs with originals for the time being (and get me a rental to drive for the couple weeks it might take), and then replace the temps as soon as the remedy springs are available.:):):)

They said it was not being called a "warranty" case, but a "goodwill" case. I told them I didn't care if they called it a "guitar" case, I was just very happy that they did the right thing.

Thanks again for all the help.

Guess I should wait for the final remedy springs before adding airbags?

I had my truck in at the dealer a couple weeks ago, and had the chance to ask the service manager what they thought the leaf spring recall fix might be. He said they have no idea at this point, but heard the engineers are involved on a redesign. Their guess is Toyota might eliminate the springs altogether in favor of an alternative suspension solution. I have no idea what that would look like. So chalk it up to rumor ... but a rumor that came from a Toyota service manager.

Well, at least it looks like Toyota will have plenty of spring leaf packs to give to everyone during this recall since it looks like the 3rd gen rear springs are the same as the 2nd gen LOL

I just called Toyota, and after five minutes of spilling information about myself to ensure that I was the owner, they told me the same old shit of 'workin on the remedy' I kept pressing the issue, and finally the rep puked that indeed it will be new springs. They just wont say when. What a charade.

It would be interesting to know what the specs on the proposed new springs are going to be.

I got the TSB done in 2010 (on my 05), but the district reps who were in town told me they were putting on HILUX suspension all around. So while they did replace all four, it's not clear what they put on. I'm wondering if I am good to go with what I have or if I should look into the new springs.

Just wondering how you got the TSB done in 2010 on a 2005 if the TSB states "This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date."

I know people who were turned down because they were outside the 36 months.

This was right around the time Toyota was getting slammed for runaway Prius' and all that.

I had just purchased my Tacoma used with 45K miles and took it to the dealership after a camping trip where the only load in the bed was my dogs and the springs were hitting the bumpers.

The service rep was nice enough and did a couple of "measurements" to see if I was sitting to low in the back, but more importantly she knew the district reps were going to be in town the following week and asked me to come back then.

I did, she talked to them, they asked me if I would get all my regular service done at the dealership if they hooked me up, I said sure, done deal.

That service rep has since moved on and so have I.
