Anyone have any updates on when they may issue the second letter? I have my lift ready to install but still waiting on the recall. Called the dealer and asked if I can put the Dakars on and when the recall springs come in just bring my old ones in and throw the new ones in the bed, but they made it very clear if I do any modifications to the rear suspension the recall is void. Almost to the point where I dont care if I get new springs

If you have Dakar leaf springs why would you need OEM springs?

Would like the new leaf pack if I ever need to go back to stock.

So I was driving down the road going pretty slow and went over a speed bump and hear loud "clunk clank clunk"...10 feet further down headr another "clunk clank clunk" with something loud hitting the ground. I pulled over and realized it was a piece of the leaf spring that broke off.

I brought it in and toyota kept my truck. They said it's technically NOT a TSB but a recall on the part or something along those lines. They said the last truck that was brought in took about 1 month to get the leaf pack for replacement. The fastest they had was 1 week...So now I will be driving a rental toyota corolla with all expenses paid by the dealership. I told the service guy that I had a 'add a leaf' and I better not recieve a truck that is lowered back to stock. He said they will only replace the stock leaf pack with a new one and keep everything in place. I read some people say that the dealership will void the replacement if they have aftermarket parts so I would call back and say BS on that because mine is getting fixed. I have the Toytec ultimate lift kit on my truck and they still took it in.

I doubt any dealership will give you a new leaf pack for your old one if it isn't currently installed on your truck. I would leave your truck as and wait for them to install the new leaf pack THEN do your upgrade

cleaning under my 09 access cab 4x4 Saturday and saw the second leaf (driver side) broken clean into. put some tape around it to keep it from falling out. this morning went to the local dealer (Rusty Wallace Toyota) and asked the service manager what could he tell me about the recall.
he said they knew just about as much as us. he said there would be a major recall, but Toyota did not have a fix yet and certainly no new modified design spring.
I looked straight at him and told him mine was broken and I knew it and I was notifying him that it was broken so if anything happened he now was officially notified.
he then told me to schedule a repair and they would change the broken spring pack with what was available today (at no charge to me). he also said that when Toyota finally decides what to do, I would be fully eligible for two new design spring packs also at no cost to me.
If you want it fixed now, I think they key is passing the responsibility of an accident to the dealer.
these guys were fair, but said I would be notified by Toyota, since they have already informed the NTSB that vehicles would be recalled.
just an update, maybe this helps you feel a little better.

It just Su*ks to have to kinda have to threaten a dealer for something that they should do. If it's the individual I be sure to work with someone else, Otherwise it's time to find a new Dealer.

I never said it was an AAL that broke. If you look at the photos the AAL is at the bottoms and it clearly shows the leaf that broke was on top...

I have a 2010 Double cab Tacoma 4x4. The driver's side rear leaf spring broke three weeks ago. About a 14" piece came out, got against the tire but no further damage. So long story short I got it back today. The service department only replaced the broke spring. When I got it back to work I noticed something just didn't look right and it's not. My truck now leans to the left (replaced spring side) there is nearly a 2" difference from one side to the other!!! My truck has a leveling kit on it and now is not level. I took it right back and the service manager has ordered another spring. The issue I now am concerned about is are these new springs going to be the same specs as the originals? And if they are what would be the fix to make my truck level like it was when I took it to them? Sorry about the long explanation, but this is my first Tacoma and it just makes me a little sick to see it all out of whack!!!:(

The AAL broke. In your pic, 3rd leaf down. Bottom leaf is the factory overload leaf. So unless you're saying one of the main leaves above, out of the frame of the picture, is broken then the AAL was the defective spring

Yes..... he could. Two leafs plus the overload. That's what my truck had from the factory (2007). I currently have the 3 leaf plus overload TSB.

And yes...the AAL would've been installed on the bottom above the overload leaf. The AAL broke.

I agree with all the posts above, looking at the picture it sure as hell looks like the aal broke. Mine has the same as the posts above, 2 main springs plus the overload.

Two plus overload is what my 2007 still has; missed TSB by a month when I bought mine in 2010. I run airbags to compensate.

OK. I relent I was counting the overload as a spring ....
