thanks for correcting me. I didn't do the install and I totally forgot about the overload leaf. I was thinking of the AAL was at the bottom and the stock leaf pack came as 3. OOOPPS. Well the dealership didn't realize that and hopefully don't see this forum. Last I called yesterday they are still replacing the stock leafs so I don't know. We are still waiting for the replacement leafs

Well...in all honestly...it really doesn't matter. Even if you didn't have the AAL in there, you'd be getting new leafs under recall anyway eventually. The dealership can be 'pricks' about it and deny you. So what? Just take the AAL's out and go back. They can't deny you the recall.

I noticed you have axle shims. I would highly recommend taking more photos of the shims & the orientation before the dealer does any work. I'm thinking they might not put those back in and/or will put them in wrong.

It was for,to replace the drivers side leafs that broke.I had received the letter from Toyota for the recall and the leafs broke a few days later.Toyota said it was 836.00 to replace the rear leafs. They heard about the recall but had nothing from Toyota Canada about refund.I called Toyota Canada and they said a letter for rebate was being made up,but it could be June before I receive my money. An here I sit.

I sent corporate an E-mail the other day basically stating my springs are flat as a pancake, and don't stroke me with another waiting for the old remedy response. Still waiting for an answer........... Toyota's losing points on this alleged recall.

Today I talked with the "Fixed Operations Manager" at our local dealer (Canada) and asked him what is going on with the Leaf Spring Recall. He doesn't know much about what is happening with it. He said he was in a meeting recently where it was discussed and Toyota Canada was pushing for taking trucks to local spring shops and having the individual spring within the pack replaced "because it is just the one spring that breaks". (Japanese Engineers didn't think that was a good idea according to him.) I told him I didn't think that was a good idea replacing one spring on a pack that is already flat without weight on it. And also both sides would have to be done or it would sit crooked. I told him I already had the TSB done on the springs. " Oh you had your 3 leaf springs swapped out with a 4 leaf set." I said no they put another "beefed up" three leaf set (according to them) because some people found the 4 leaf too rough. Anyway just before the recall came out I was thinking about getting mine fixed and I'm still waiting to find out what is going on. It will soon be a year since the recall was mentioned.

Yeah I've been watching for this recall. The site kept saying 'solution pending' and just a few days ago I noticed it was updated. Don't know if anyone's posted this yet but here's the text and the link.

RECALL Subject : Leaf Spring may Fracture and Puncture Tank
Report Receipt Date: SEP 29, 2014
    NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000
    Component(s): SUSPENSION

Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing

    SUMMARY:

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, to October 11, 2010. In the affected vehicles, one of the leaf springs may fracture due to stress or corrosion. While being driven, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components including the fuel tank, possibly puncturing the tank and causing a fuel leak.

    CONSEQUENCE:

If the fuel tank leaks fuel from being punctured, there is an increased risk of a fire.

    REMEDY:

Toyota will notify owners and dealers will install new rear leaf spring assemblies. The interim notices were sent out in late November 2014. A second notice will be mailed when parts become available. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

    NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Interesting. The Toyotaowners.com site still lists it as "Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this condition." I still think it will be a can of Flex Seal.

Hey all, long time lurker and my first post.
Have an '08 Tacoma that I plan on modding up a bit,Now that it's paid for...
I was forced to start with the suspension.

    20150415_181048_zps6jnw1ppj_e7f32f35261dd5d203dfd9cb07e2d5bea8eae392.jpg
Yep...3 cracked leafs...epic. Passenger side and not once have I overloaded the bed.
This is my 5th Toyota truck and I have snapped leafs before from overloading.
Even though my truck is eligible for the recall.
I refuse to engage in the recall hassle and ponied up the cash for the new suspension.
I could do the entire suspension in a fraction of the time the dealership can swap out these weak sauce springs.
    20150415_181111_zpsjzzm4oe9_96d2dd1aeef311d07fd98121bb392b4423cf2297.jpg
...And no, I don't want to be reimbursed expenses either. I use the truck for business and repairs are a tax write off.
    So a small win there....
Besides, If Toyota keeps putting this garbage out there, they are going to need that cash for more class action law suits. :)

I wonder if since I got new leaf springs when my frame was replaced, if I'll be getting new leaf springs again?!?

I just upgraded my springs with the OME leafs from Toytec. Too much depending on the dealer for stuff..I got 5 years with the truck and didn't think investing 500 on a solid suspension was a big deal.

I would assume so, since the new ones you got are not the updated ones the this recall will have.
