I stopped at Victory Toyota in Canton, MI. They inspected the truck, suprise......it's getting new springs like (almost) everyone else. They have the springs in stock but the "fit kit" is what is on back order. Said it'd take a couple weeks. While I waited they made me lunch at the lunch counter in the showroom, then I walked the lot checking out the '16 Tacomas, I really liked the Inferno Orange, sales lady offered to let me drive it even though I told her I wasn't buying. Excellent customer service experience.

Finally got my reimbursement from Toyota.:bananadance:

Luckily I had purchase my skyjackers leaf pack from Amazon, and was able to produce a receipt. I replaced them myself, so no reimbursement for labor.
Oh well, I'm just glad Toyota came thru.

I had the spring recall replacement done yesterday at my local dealer and it was actually quite painless. I called them on Wed afternoon to schedule an oil change/tire rotation and told them about the recall, and they said if I could swing down for a few minutes on Thursday morning they would do the inspection. I stopped at the dealer on my way to work yesterday, they did a quick inspection and said they had the parts in stock so if I could leave the truck with them for the day they would do the replacement and the oil change/tire rotation. They shuttled me to my office and then back at the end of the day to pick it up.

I didn't realize until last night when I was reading through this thread and the Toyota remedy notice that there are actually two different sets of replacement springs for the AC/DC - the standard one and the one for trucks with the TSB springs. I had the spring TSB done shortly after I bought the truck six years ago so I had 3+1 leaf TSB springs, and the dealer replaced them with the 04005-34304 spring set instead of the 04005-34404 spring set, which are both 3+1 leaf sets.

I'm on the fence about whether I want to keep it the way it is or go back and have them replace them with the updated TSB spring set. I noticed the truck rides a little nicer now and the rake is closer to level than it was with the TSB springs, so I may just leave it the way it is. 90% of my driving is with just me in the truck and nothing in the bed, so I always felt the TSB springs made it ride like an empty dump truck. Load capacity is not a huge issue because most of the loads I carry are a couple hundred pounds or less and only for a few miles between my house and the dump or the lumber yard, etc.

    Thoughts?

I would keep it that way, and if in the future you need more payload, you can always throw in some airbags like I did. I prefer comfort over payload, because like you, most of the time is just me and an empty truck bed.

Just got my truck back from the steelership. Overall they did a good job, only compliant is that my e-brake lever is stiffer when engaging it, might have to look into.

They replaced both driver and passenger side leaf springs and hardware associated. My taco is about at the right height, in the picture below of my silver taco is with about quarter of a tank of fuel and nothing in the bed. The ride is just a little firmer, hopefully with some miles on the new leafs, it will soften up a little, but doesnt bother me.

Edit: should add that when I was signing the paper work, the total bill came out to be in between $1,200 and $1,300, dont remember exactly. Of course Free of charge for me.

Being from Vermont originally, how does the frame look and did you bring it in to have it inspected for the LSC?

When I bought the truck about 3 1/2 to 4 years ago it looked to be in rough shape, the bed area of the truck was worst. At the time when i first got it, I treated the rear of the frame myself. Also at the time i had no idea toyota would replace the frame if any porferation. I took my truck in once when i was living in colorado and the dealer didnt find any porferations. Took my taco in twice earlier this year to two different dealers and they couldnt find any porferations. I guess its a good thing but as of now my frame looks to be getting rustier but not enough to need a replacement. Id like to treat it but screw it, if my frame craps out on me, it will be toyota fault even if its outside the allowed inspection time frames. Ill just bring in my rust inspection previous papers and hand it to them.

I just coated my frame this spring with Fluid Film, from a kit a bought at Kelly Sports and I'm really impressed with the product/kit. If you ever decide to extend the life of your frame, I would recommend Fluid Film, especially before winters salt coats the road. I was hoping for a new frame, so now extending the life is all I can do, but with the years of the same problem, it boggles the mind why Toyota hasn't addressed the long long stand problem/safety issue IMO.

p.s. Thanks for the picture upload.

Yeah I heard of that type of coating, from what ive read and seen, seems to be pretty stout stuff, just have to keep applying it, assuming its the same exact product you mentioned. I used POR15 when treating the rear section of the frame. The problem is there was no way for me to get in between sandwich metal, and those are the areas that show and its areas like this where it will rust from inside out and makes coating the outside kind of pointless. If I decide to keep the truck long enough, ill try that Fluid Film out and thanks for you input on it. Been thinking of letting my truck go, been saving money for down payment to get my own place. Would be nice to have a huge boost to my savings selling of the taco and buying a cheap beater taco for the time being.

No problem with the pictures, im always posting pictures, hehe.

I actually received a phone call from my local dealership today. I let it go to voicemail, but they were calling to inform me of the recall on the leaf springs and want me to set up an appointment.

I had mine replaced about 2 weeks ago and still have not received my remedy letter for the leaf spring recall, I was one of the first phases of the roll out too. The truck does seem to ride stiffer, which I hope will stay that way long term.

hey guys originally when i joined here i had just bought my 2011 prerunner, with 48k on it and i had noticed a thump after i stop.So reading on here it seemed the leaf springs were to blame, well a year later now....just got them replaced a month ago and it rides great but still after i stop about two or three seconds later theres this sudden thump in the drive line. Can it be the torque convertor?

So are these the right ones for a double-cab? I think they're right but would feel better with confirmation..

The first one is yes, the second pic is not of the part number but sense they both come in the same box I'm sure they are. The other side will have the part number in yellow

Anyone had their Leaf springs replaced because of the recall? Wondering how long it took for them to arrive?
