new 3+1 Leaf Springs lost nearly an inch. Now I am sitting nose high. I guess I have to do an AAL to get the truck to sit right.

Good luck @longlivecowboys75. It would be easier if they could stick the AAL in but installing them isn't difficult. Especially since you won't be working on rusted up old hardware it won't be bad at all.

FWIW, you'll be getting new u-bolts with the springs. They stretch when installed so aren't technically supposed to be reused, but I've reused them and haven't had an issue. Just throwing it out there for consideration and peace of mind.

You will definitely need a new center pin, the original one will be too short and probably will have to be cut off.

I received my letter about 6 weeks ago. I few days later I called the local dealership and they told me they would simply order the new parts and call me in about 2-3 weeks when they were in for the install.

It had been at least 5 weeks so today I thought I would call and check on it. Of course, they had no record of me calling and now want me to come in and get it inspected first. Errrrrr

This is exactly why I starting doing my own auto work a few years ago. I can't stand dealing with repair shops anymore!! :frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty:

I'm not understanding why people keep expecting technicians to do work on your truck for free. Easy yes but still takes time, time that can be used on something else actually making money, we are not hourly.

I understand what you are saying from a tech side but also know that it's not the consumers fault that Toyota decided to put subpar parts on our trucks and now are having to fix there mistake. If they had went with a quality product to begin with us users would be happy to keep our aal or whatever as is.

Least that's how I feel anyway. If you're a tech not getting paid for the extra work, that's a tragedy and you need to take it up with Toyota. Don't be mad at us consumers for expecting everything back as it was when it went in, but safer with the chances of blowing us up in a ball of an exploding fuel tank. :)

Side note: had my inspection today and they said 4-weeks for parts to arrive, we'll see. :)

I'm not mad at anyone, I get a hour for aal's during a E02. I see both side of the situation but like I've said a few other times on here. The consumers took it upon themselves to alter Toyotas part, technically toyota doesn't even have to do anything with them anymore but they are. I see so many people upset about toyota not willing to take apart a leaf pack and install a aftermarket part, go check out another manufacturer, they'd just let you blow up if your "old" vehicle

Ha, I feel ya. If I had a Chevy or Ford they probably would let me blowup before even returning it back to stock with a recall. Why do you think I have a Toyota. :) You techs (assuming you are one @tacotruck442) really get paid per job,not per hour?

If I indeed need to add my aal back myself, does anyone know if my the old one is compatible, I've read mixed messages on this. Any success from anyone?

They are compatible, We get a lot of broken ones that u can't see until taken apart but ya they swap right over with a new center pin .

Ya , techs are flat rate. They'd have to pay us way to much(hourly rate) to match what we make flat rate

I've been a service writer at Toyota before, and also a customer. I see it from both sides. Now as a customer, I'm willing to pay for the add a leaf install if they show they are willing to do the work.

If they just dismiss it and say no way in hell, I won't even ask them what if I paid for an hour. If they tell me sure we can do that, but it's an hour labor I'm more than happy to hand them the cash.

Tried setting up replacement with dealer here in Dallas area, they said the recall was void since I added a leaf. Called Toyota directly who then said if I want the work done I will have to remove the AAL myself and bring it in and that dealer won't reinstall the AAL. Ridiculous. I'm going to call around to other dealers to see what they'll do. All this hassle just makes me want to put Dakars on even more.

Called yesterday to make an appt for the inspection - dealer said he had nothing in stock so he'll have to order the springs. Did not ask me to come in for an inspection just asked for my VIN and will call when springs are in.

Also I took out my air bag system but left off the OEM bump stops since my OEM hardware is fully rusted - anyone know if the new hardware also includes new bump stops? If I don't have to put the old ones back in then I'll be happy...

Wow, guess i'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't ran into that with our service center here in Memphis. I would defiantly be contacting other dealerships and stay away from that one.

Mine sure look new but I can't say that with zero doubt because I can't see a label. But they have that white powdery coating still on the rubber and the plates are shiny gold-ish color, so I'm about 97% sure they are brand new.
I bought my truck used in 2015 and I get recall letters. If you've ever taken it into a dealer (you personally) then your VIN should be associated with you. If you've never taken it in then the previous (or original) owner may still be the one of record. Pretty sure there's also a place on Toyota's website where you can register yourself as the owner.

You should get a letter. I bought my truck used and had the new springs put in under the recall. Call the dealer and tell them you want to bring the truck in to have the recall taken care of. That's what I did. They asked for my VIN#, checked on their system and told me to bring it in. This was before my letter arrived.

Edit - just read your last post....good deal
