The wiring harness is different, so if you can, steal that from the donor as well.

There is an additional sensor on the "2-4 Select" Transfer Case that sends a signal to the ECU of whether it is in High or Low range, which will enable/disable the ability to use the rear locker as well as some other logic.

Personally, unless you want to have twin sticks, I'd just use the 2-4 select transfer case.

I’ll be buying the entire truck so I will have access to every part of the truck that I would need.
I would prefer to use my J shifter, not to have to swap the donor Tcase with the push button and deal with extra electrical just for a push button. Not going to be putting in a marlin crawler twin stick, would be sic but not in the budget right now.
By 2-4 shifter do you mean the push button or the J shift?

Yes, the service manual calls it that. Probably best to know the Toyota terminology before starting the project so it’s easier to parse the service manual which will become your new bible.

Safety.. do I need to change my wiring harness from my prerunner or keep the oem one and just leave the plugs hanging that went to the auto trans?

No need to change the wiring harness. Just unpin the things you don't need from the ECU. I knew I would not convert back to an Auto-Transmission so I just cut the ones I didn't need.

In regards to the wires by the transmission, I wrapped in tape and left it tucked away on the manual transmission. The harness going down to the transmission still has the wires for the park neutral safety switch, O2 sensors, 4x4 position sensors, and reverse light. You'll need to rewire them accordingly to get your truck running.

@SafetyDang Hey man, I referenced your writeup quite a few times when doing my swap a few years ago, so thanks for that! I never got around to finishing the speedometer part of the swap, so I've been driving without a speedometer for quite some time lol.

The transmission I used for the swap is from a 96 Tacoma, so it has a mechanical VSS, but my truck is a 99 Prerunner, so it has an electrical VSS. So from my understanding an eletrical VSS is interchangeable for the mechanical VSS, and then after I switch them out I just need to extend the female end of the plug on my truck to reach the VSS, and then I'm good to go? Thanks!

If I remember correctly, yes. DM me on IG if you have any issues. I don't log on to TW often.

    The Bed is stock...ish

Man... how has it been 8 year? Hows the Tacoma?

In the quote above, how did you mount the twin stick boot to the stock reboot ring?

Honestly it’s really easy swap if you’re only doing the transmission. I can’t speak on swapping to 4x4. Check out @osterhagen’s build thread on his swap. There are a couple good one on here. Also for the basics watch @Timmah! videos on removing and auto trans and removing a manual trans.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/crowe’s-auto-to-manual-01-1st-gen-swap.651201/
Here’s my thread I didn’t finish yet, but it has the videos attached and some other helpful links that helped me. How much experience do you have working on your truck?

Longer bolts through the boot plate and sandwiched the twinstick boot in between.

    Sold the truck.

What is your question? Physical help?

Sold it to a friend for low. I didn't ask for the current market value. I asked for what I thought it was worth. If I didn't sell to a friend I would have asked for more.
