Got a photo of the new kite today. Light wind day. Don’t mind the wrinkles in the main no need to adjust halyard tension after the race gets abandoned.569F5C71-1FC6-48FD-B488-46AA37609DC4.jpg

We won our club's biggest race this past weekend, the 21 mile Bear Lake Monster Race. We won in 2017 then finished in the back of the pack last year. Redemption this year! Excellent conditions. We had to come from behind after sailing into a gigantic hole that everyone else seemed to miss.

Photo from a little over a year ago. Sold the boat shortly there after. O'day 37CC. Great Isaac Light House just north of Bimini in the Bahamas.

We finished off our race season Saturday with a nice win. My outboard ran awesome all season but blew up before our day started. One pull and white smoke and oil everywhere! No matter, we have a SAILBOAT, right? Sailed out to the racecourse and back into the marina with no issues. Now to wait for the quote for my outboard fix.

Fun fun! That happened to me before, changed the oil out and it ran perfect. Guess somehow it got real thinned out either with age or use (didn’t change it the second season). Funny it ran fine for days then blam Exxon Valdez all of a sudden. Motor still runs fine I just make sure I change the oil every season now even though I only use it for a couple hours combined.

Yeah, same for us. The motor is used for 20 mins to get to the race course and 20 minutes back every other weekend

No rig this year. But finally launched this last Friday. She hasn’t been in for 5 years. 9BE481B7-89BD-47F9-ACF0-2AEB2840B811.jpg

    Very nice.

I assume you were re-storing/re-fitting her. Pictures of the process?

No pictures. I’m really bad at documenting work. All the brightwork was scraped down to bare wood, sanded, and re-varnished. Sanded everything and painted. My mom’s a retired house painter, and pulled out her big bag of tricks. I helped with the prep work and mechanical where I could.

Mainmast snapped a few years ago. Had it repaired, so it needs a paint job and some hardware maintenance. She’ll be sailing next year. Just gonna motor her around for what’s left of the season.

That time of year. Packing up for the winter. We'll tow her to Arizona in Feb for the Birthday Regatta then back to Bear Lake next spring!

The acceleration of those boats is crazy! They seem faster than the cats - hard to believe if so.

I'm sure there will be some spectacular wipeouts, too.

I want to see some tacks! That is an impressive transition through those jibes. Lots happening. It’s going to be pretty awesome to watch.
