Waiting for the weather to warm up. Too cold to sail, too cold to varnish

haha luckily my girl gets inside storage in the winter. tarping or shrink-wrapping would cost more and is such a massive pain in the ass

not my boat (sadly), Out on a j160 last fall in chicago. The freaking boom is as long as my whole boat, and the asym has almost as much square footage as my house. with 10' of draft, and 8' of rudder it had very little weather helm even with full sails in 23kt of wind. the rail was in the water (not in this pic, it piped up later that day) and i could steer it casually with one hand and a light grip. such a great sailing boat.

    Nice.

We used to tow Lasers around in too light of air. Ah, good times...

Had to push a little ice to get out of the boat ramp today. Unfortunately after that all I did was bob around in search of the forecasted 10kt winds that never showed up.

Fun day, got gusty and I waited a bit too long to put a reef in. When I'm sailing by myself (which is most of the time) I always try to do it early since it means I have to screw with the sail and hope the boat stays generally in a straight line, which it never does. The boat is small enough that the weight shifting forward and to the side throws off everything even with the tiller tamer tight. You can see the boat pop straight back flat as soon as I let the main sheet loose.

I wanted a slip and both marinas at the local reservoir have a couple year long waitlist. Solved that problem by buying a new boat in a slip that transferred to me. Not much of an upgrade but went from my Capri 18 to a Catalina 22, basically the same boat but four feet longer and with a swing keel instead of a shoal draft keel.

Sailed a sunfish as a kid. My dad got a JY22 when I was a teen, that was fun to sail. Always loved sailing little boats and whipping them around.

That is the M5 sailing vessel. 291' mast, largest single mast sailboat in the world. The photo does not do justice to how large it is. That's a 120'+ yacht in front of it

Compared to a full size cruise ship, it's still taller
