Exactly why I thought to ask. It's what turned me off about it in the first place.

If it's improved, I may go that route over the preferred Toyota one. Think I would rather have flush-top set screws or something, though.

Yea, I imagine you could replace the bolts with something a little lower profile

You Don’t have to use a broker. He could contact yrc, old dominion , abf, ups freight and get direct quotes. Unless you run his shipping you really can’t know for sure if he is getting the best rate. He may have found the best rate but he may not have and to assume it’s the best is probably not wise. Most likely he found a shipper and doesn’t have time or energy for every order to run the shipping quote with 3 or 4 lines to find the best rate goes each customer. Which is understandable

you don’t get a volume discount if you are using multiple carriers to ship freight. My company is a top customer with old dominion because we ship with them so much. You won’t get that using 4-5 carriers and constantly spot quoting each shipment to find the best rate. The carriers know which customers do this and you won’t get their best rates by doing so. They can see how many loads you book compared to how many quotes you run on your account

I use to work for old dominion until a few months ago. We got SOS a quote. His current shipper pricing is much lower. I wouldn’t trust YRC with a load of pillows. ABF is okay, but you also have to remember what is convenient for them. A lot of these freight companies have a surcharge to go to the customer location too. SOS current shipper happens to be the best rate for them. They didn’t open their business last night. They’ve done their due diligence.

I can't speak to others experiences with SOS, as I've read very mixed reviews.

I can say my own experience. I recently ordered Front and mid skids from SOS and they were reasonably responsive via email (usually either same day or next morning). All questions were addressed and my skids are ready to be picked up.

I’d pick some skids up if there was an oil change door on the 2nd gen ifs like the 3rd gen ifs :(

As I recall... second gens don’t need a hatch to drain the oil.. filter is on top... right? I’m not super savvy on second gens.

There is a drain hole and the filter is on top. No need to remove skids to change oil.

FYI- just sent an email via website today, got a response with in a few hours, don’t know the exact time it took, but clearly reached back in a very reasonable time.

I'm sad to hear SOS isn't officially a vendor anymore. SOS is a great company. I have their streamline front bumper, sliders, all 3 skids (IFS, mid, tcase), and an HC rear with swingout.

If you're in the Southeast, remember, you don't have to have armor shipped. You can save a lot of money by driving to the shop and picking up in person, which is what I did for all of my armor.

I can't say enough good things about SOS. All of my armor has held up great, and I've had no concerns with their customer service. I've beached the truck on a boulder on the IFS skid in a creek. I've dragged the truck over rocks on all 3 skids multiple times. I've high centered on my sliders both on purpose and on accident many times. I've used the HC rear and the sliders as jack points and as anchor points. I've dropped down on my rear bumper so hard it broke the hitch step (the SOS bumper was fine, fucker didn't even move), and towed over 20k trouble-free miles on the bumper. I've dragged trees out of the road with my front bumper that were so heavy I had the truck in 4x4 with the wheels spinning to get it moving. I've pulled over a dozen cars and trucks out of ditches in a snowstorm with the winch and tow points on the streamline front bumper. It just goes on and on.

The bottom line is, SOS armor is functional, stout, and the real deal. My truck would be absolutely destroyed right now if not for SOS, and I've spent hardly anything on my armor since I ordered it all bare metal and picked it up in person.

@uploadadventure One suggestion for the site next time you speak with him is to list the 2016+ skids separately. I was thinking about grabbing the front skid now and the rest later, and I'm sure that's possible but not through the website.
