Bla bla bla.....Who cares about the sales stats. I owned a 1st Gen for 15yrs sold it because I wanted a new one. I didn't have not one problem with that truck, not the engine, not the tranny, not the suspension, nothing except normal wear and tear. Oh and on top of all that my paint after 15 years still looked close to brand new. How many trucks do you see that are chevys, dodges, etc that are 5-10 years old and its rusting or the paint looks awful?? The guy who bought it from me is still loving it and its going strong. My 2nd gen is awesome as well. As everyone else has stated tacomas sell themselves and I have 3 buddies who after riding in my truck and seeing the resell value of them compared to the Dodge Full Size one of them is driving are now looking into tacomas. My .02 is in enjoy everyone.

All large companies are internationally traded....When you send that monthly payment the majority goes to Japan not Texas.

What car company imports vehicles from a worse country? I can't think of any off the top of my head....well except for Mexico where the Tacoma frames are made. I'd take Japan over Mexico any day.

First off, GM didn't pay it all back we as the TAX PAYERS had to pay the loss GMs stock took when the government sold the stocks back. SO EVERY TAX PAYING AMERICAN HAD TO BAIL OUT A COMPANY THAT HAD, HAS, AND WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE PISS POOR MANAGEMENT AND STANDARDS. In addition look at how many GM trucks have a VIN that starts with 1 which indicates it is made in America... Yes the Tacoma is made by a foreign government but I did not have to spend (NOT BY MY CHOICE) my hard earned money on a supposed American car company that makes a large amount of it vehicles oversees AND not in America simply because the powers that be are incapable of running a car company. I can say my Tacoma was half made in Texas as opposed to my mothers Chevy suburban which was completely made and assembled in Mexico...

Can the Tacoma TRD beat the Frontier Pro-4x

Will the 2016 Tacoma be redesigned to look more like the Hilux

Tacoma vs Hilux. Which one would you want?

Chevy Colorado looks awesome! Come on Toyota!

Tacoma interior is outdated. Will the new Mid Size truck competition make Tacoma finally keep up.

:D and finally... Should I buy a Tacoma now? Or wait until the 2016 redesign? (that i heard from a friend that knows a guy that knows the CEO of Toyota and said for sure they are redesigning the Tacoma in 2016)

Well if a company were to redesign their vehicle in say 2016, it would still be 2-3 years off. As an example development on the 2015 F-150 started probably In 2009-2010, they just revealed the truck about 8-10 months ago.

If there is truly a 2016 Tacoma, it's already been made, and has been in R&D and heavily disguised for the last 2-3 years at a secret proving grounds.

I would think a 2016 launch would have turned up some factory, prototype drawings, or speculation, at the very least. Does any know how long it took for the first 2nd gen sighting to show up during the 1st gen run? This burning itch for an all new truck doesn't affect me however, as I never buy anything until well into the 3rd or 4th run. Every brand has teething issues at first, and Toyota is not immune to this. Early 2nd gens had saggy and weak leaf springs. I'm sure all 2nd gens are subject to rusting frames, but the early ones are most noted here. Realistically, I probably won't be in nee of another one until the 4th gen arrives, so I could give a hill of beans what the next one is going look like.

Yes, maybe, no, no, yes :D

Honestly the interior on my '14 tacoma is plenty modern. The colorado, on the other hand, looks like my uncle's early 2000s chevy with a touch screen. But then I've never understood the desire for leather seats, theyd just get torn up by guns/bows/ammo boxes/etc gear.

don't get me wrong, I would take heated Katskin leather seats any day. my wife has them in her Scion and theyre great. but i really do like the cloth sport seats in my truck. My last truck was a Ford Ranger and for some reason those seats stained all the time. Even water stained the seats.

Not impressed. I'm more impressed with the mountains in the background.

I've also never been a fan of leather. Alcantara yes, leather... no. That said, I'll take my TRD seats any day.

Don't get me wrong, I like Toyota's as much as the next guy here, but to compare them to Chevy, dodge etc. espicially when it comes to rust is in my mind a poor comparison.
I got rid of my 1st gen due to frame rust, 12 years later on the. 2nf gen looks like the same is happening. I brought my 1st gen in for broken leaf springs, 12 years later I'm bringing in my 2nd gen. I fought with Toyota about a noisey release bearing etc. on my 1st gen, 12 years later guys are still having the same issue. I replaced 3 blower motors on my 1st gen, 12 years later I'm on my 2nd on my 2nd gen.

I personally think that Toyota needs to up there game, not only on releasing a 3rd gen, but on quality. I personally don't think the 1st or 2nd gens come close to what Toyota made prior, yet they are still riding on that reputation.
I'm not saying the big 3 are better, but I think they are closing the gap in design, performance and quality.

    Shawn.

I'm sure RAM winning motor trend's truck of the year two years in a row didn't help. $35k gets you a larger truck with a lot more power, a more modern interior and exterior, and some crazy creature comforts.

Most new buyers are probably less and less concerned with Toyota's reputation and more interested in bells and whistles, appearance, mpg, and power. The bells and whistles argument is solid or else none of these manufacturers would have so many trims that add thousands and thousands on to the base price.

Shit, it got me. Sold mine last week... And I towed 6,000 lbs (trailer and tacoma) 1,000 miles over hilly terrain while still achieving better fuel economy than my 4banger gave me by itself. That's a little nutty if you ask me, to drive around a 6,000 something lb truck (with 300 lbs in bed) and towing 6,000 lbs - and still getting better fuel economy than the truck being towed alone, empty. And I have vented seats :)

Will it live as long as my Tacoma? Probably not. How many times it ends up in the shop is up in to be determined, but I also don't intend on keeping it longer than maybe 8 years. Not hauling this thing can pull in the better part of 30mpg on the highway but I also could have bought two new Tacomas for the price of this one. Worth it in my opinion, but it's all about your priorities.

Buying a brand new truck for offroad capabilities is pretty foolish unless you really plan on getting out there every weekend, and don't mind potentially damaging a brand new vehicle. The tacoma will always be more nimble than these full size trucks but that's not a very strong selling point. Have a second vehicle for beating up on the trails if you need it.

When you step outside of the Toyota fan boy mindset and consider the thought process for someone who isn't brand loyal, just looking at getting a new truck, Toyota offerings are dead last on the board. Tacoma is dated, inefficient, and weak. Tundra is a complete gas hog (while making excellent power) but the interior isn't very impressive. Everything else puts down excellent power, better fuel economy, and has a much more appealing interior to many.

So in short, Tacoma has the following going for it: It's reputation for reliability, it's nimble behavior on trails (which ties in to more compact size - which ties in to easier to park), and... well, that's it. They're going to have to do some amazing things for 2016 (or whenever they finally redesign) and that includes rethinking their power options completely. The 8spd transmissions seem to be a trend, so they'll still get overlooked unless they join that bandwagon or find another way to start squeezing out mid to high 20 mpg while still putting down good power. Otherwise I don't see much of a future for either Toyota truck.

Who knows, maybe they'll finally produce/provide that diesel everyone's been creaming about on here for so long. Loving mine, and costs the same as midgrade around here (diesel is actually cheaper than regular unleaded in many places across the west)

This is sadly true, sometimes a bigger truck doesn't necessarily mean a better truck. I've owned a 2001 F-150 and it was constantly plagued with problems

Wow. I haven't really noticed how good the new RAM looks until now. Also, you could probably blame the 4-speed or 5-speed transmission for the I-4's relatively poor fuel economy; it likes to sit on higher RPMs, especially when merging on the freeway or accelerating from a stop.

Crazy how much better the new generation of trucks have become....

IMO the Hardbody & 1st gen Frontiers were on par, and in some ways better than the equivalent Toyota back then. Only reason to get a Toyota over the Nissan in the 1980's, was if you HAD TO HAVE a straight front. Personally always loved the Hardbody design. SE 4x4's back then came stock with BFG A/T's in 31x10.5 size.

The 1nd gens were basically a new body, over the old Hardbody. I didn't care for the exaggerated styling of the later facelifted 1st gen Frontiers. But the company had my attention when they offered a Supercharger from the factory. Unfortunately, the Supercharger only made the truck about as powerful as the Tacoma 3.4 N/A, and it required premium fuel, and got V8 like economy on top of that.

I feel like the bean counters at Nissan decided to cheapen the Frontier for the entire 2nd gen, only making it bigger, but not better. Unlike Toyota which has improved their truck with ever new generation. Theres no doubt the next Tacoma will be better than the current, but there are things unique about every generation of Toyota truck I love. I can't say that about any other brand.

I mean prior to 2011, I would have never considered a Ford F-150. I don't care for Silverado's after the '95 Z71 years. I didn't like Ram's until the newest design came out etc.... But there isn't a single year of a Toyota truck I wouldn't mind owning.
