%((**&$ salesman! What's the typical "Crawl" engage noise?

Went by and just wanted to see the new gen 3. I have/had a '14 DBL Sport. Drove the new one, and that was too much to handle. Now have a '16 DBL Off Road. Love the power, but that constant gear search is annoying. Hit 80 mph and the OD is fine.

    1. Stupid salesman put the trk in crawl on pavement. I just about freaked, and should have walked but didn't.

    2. How much noise is there when the everything hooks up in Crawl?

The owners manual says there is noise, but I am thinking there is way too much. Sounds likes the ABS is trying to function for about 10 feet. Worst thought is that the idiot salesman screwed something up.

I actually don't think much about the crawl, but the terrain select in 4 Lo seems to be remarkable. Makes more sense than the crawl function.

    Thanks for any insight.

It sounds like a slow machine gun.

Super noisy, all the videos of crawl control on the internet demonstrate the noise accurately.

Literally sounds like something is breaking, but that's how it's supposed to be, I guess.

As long as you weren't trying to make tight turns going into 4 low shouldn't hurt the drive train.

It's so gimicky. I've had my taco offroad more times in 2800 miles than most people. And not once have I even thought about using crawl

I thought it was gimmicky as well until I tried it.
I've been offorading "the old fashion way" for years, meaning using my foot on the gas to get up or down obstacles.

CC makes it much smoother going up or down hills etc. No jerking of teh truck if you hit a bump etc etc.
Also much less tire spin, usually.

    And yes, very noisy!

I fucking hate salesman for that reason. Not that they mess up a vehicle they're trying to sell, but they don't have any idea how to work what they're selling. They'll tag along for a test drive, and just start flipping switches and turning dials and pushing buttons telling you what they THINK it all does. No need to press every button, I'll read the manual like I should and learn exactly how to work the functions.

I could see some idiot salesman here in SoCal turn on crawl control on the 405 during rush hour traffic.

    I've tried most speed settings.
I think the noise comes from how much the brakes are used. Usually louder while going downhill.

Went back today after avoiding the stress builder for 45 miles.

Went direct to the master mechanic and this is the deal.

When you are in "crawl" on flat ground, set in the lowest/1 mph range, the ABS is working over time to keep the truck from exceeding the crawl speed. He stated that as long as there is a load, or grade on the truck that holds it below the ABS threshold in crawl it should not make any sound...minus the decent if the speed picks up.

The MM was great. He took his time to make sure I was at peace. I mentioned what the salesman did and he agreed, and every few weeks he has to reiterate to leave the 4X4 switches alone in the parking lot.

It is a freaking horrid sound on flat ground.

    Thanks all for 2 cents.

I had a sales manager show me how it worked by climbing the hill on the side of the dealer lot and about ripped the back bumper off. It was a good thing he was able to climb all the way up to the top of the hill. I left soon after that and he did scratch the bottom of it on the asphalt. He just laughed and parked it back on the lot and it sold soon after that

Nothing yet... Bought it with TWO miles on it!!!
Awesome video! I may have to make my way up from Glendale just to hit that trail. I may wanna swap out the stock treads before I do..

Used my CC a couple times two weeks ago. Pride of my mudding/ off road experience set aside, I was really impressed.
But yeah, it is a little noisy from the brakes going to town!!!

I noticed that too in flat gravel. Setting 3 or higher was quiet.
