Here is a pic of what is destroying undercarriages on east coast. You can see the white residue and salt/sand mix. They also put a liquid down before confirmed snow events. It leaves dried white lines on the road soon to melt snow. Wonder how good that is for frames once it starts to melt snow and end up coating our vehicles! [IMG]

It isn't good at all. How's your frame repair by the way?

I'm hoping my undercoating has helped keep the salt off the steel, in the next couple days I'm definitely going to rinse it off. Figure washing it off couldn't hurt anything even though I know it'll just be coated all over again.

Fresh water is better than salt water on your truck for sure!

Gosh that's bullshit! Here in Oregon we don't use salt(thank goodness) there is nothing wrong with using cinder for traction(except a couple windshield cracks every now and again). I guess out east its pry hard to find enough cinder to use though....but still...no salt! Seems like the salt states should give some kind of a kick back for ruining your vehicle. That salt would drive me nuts!

Funny part is that its not entirely salt. There is also calcium chloride and magnesium chloride in the mix. Oh and I read that the pre-treatment liquid you see that leave white stripes no the road is brine leftover from natural gas fracking.

Who knows how whats in that. Forget about ruining your truck. Its being sprinkled all over by the ton. In the water supplies, streams etc.

I wish it was only salt !!!

People over here freak out over the slightest threat or snow or ice. It's ridiculous.

In wy they use dirt mostly..pretty easy to find that stuff..lol

Calcium chloride and magnesium chloride are salts, just different salts.

In the spring I always take a sprinkler attached to a 10ft piece of 3/4" pvc with a hose adapter on one end and run the sprinkler up and down and side to side under the truck for at least 25 mins.... it flushes the undercarriage pretty well....then I wait till its bone dry and follow up with amsoil HDMP on any potential rust spots...

Yes, in NY they throw a mixture of salt and sand (probably 50/50) It gives the truck a nice sand blasting for all the salt to reach everything easier...

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I try and wash mine about once a week here just to keep the frame clean as possible. That salt and sodium chloride also costs us taxpayers a bunch of money because it's hard on the roads too, it weakens asphalt and when a plow comes by or a big heavy truck drives over it, it busts up, cracks, or leaves pockets underneath it that eventually turn into giant potholes over time.
