"Those that endorse this do not understand its impact on the fabric of our society. Same sex marriage, abortion, terrorists with civil rights......this is not the country I want to live in. It makes me so sad. Nothing is sacred any more.....the fabric of what binds us as a society is being torn apart by "super minorities". It makes a mockery of the family unit and procreation as sought after societal goals. Same sex marriage will lead to the slow disintegration of collective values in this country. More fundamentally, it rejects the laws of nature."

Wouldnt the real mockery to marriage be that nearly 50% of heterosexual couples get divorced? Where is the sanctity in that?

"^^I personally believe people are NOT born gay. The way they are brought up and the friends they hang out with will influence this later in life. Im guessing this is a recent thing because back then, gayness was frouned upon so people just wern't gay."
-That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Do some research.. you know.. that science stuff the church hates so much... and think about your previous statement.

Im just going off personal experience. The people you are around when you are young have a huge impact on the type of person you become as an adult. This applies to things like work ethic, morals, and in my opinion, sexual preference. Just my opinion and I can respect yours.

Gays should be able to have all the rights straight couples have, but just call it something other than marriage.

So if you are around gays, you will become one... REALLY? Is it a contagious disease? ... And what is this personal experience you have? Did your church tell you this?

If they can't get married then they don't have all the rights that straight couples have.

If you GROW UP around a majority of gays, than yes, you will most likely be gay. Did your parents ever tell you not to hang out with the gangsters or pot smokers? Mine did because the gang bangers will have an influence on you. If I hung out with them now, they would not have as much of an influence on me because I know the difference between right and wrong. Im done arguing here. I will not change your opinion and you won't change mine. Lets just leave it at that.

No, if you grow up around a majority of gays then you will more likely be public about being gay IF YOU ARE GAY.

i was around gays a lot after my mom came out. peer pressure never made me suck a dick, take a shot in the pooper, nor give a rusty trombone. peer pressure can never make you do anything. you chose to hang around certain people just like you chose to do the things they are doing. if you hung out w/ potheads and smoked pot, then that's your choice. you can smoke pot and never have had a pothead friend. more gay kids come from straight parents, so obviously it's not a taught way of life.

see, more Americans should have that stance. you dont like it, which is totally fine, thats your right, but you realize you dont have the right to make personal decisions for others. thats a good way to look at at.

personally i dont believe being gay is genetic, but it certainly isn't a choice. i think i know what steve o is saying. everything about you has at some point been sculpted out of your past experiences. whether you like red heads or blondes, skinnies or fatties, bondage or candle wax, your sexual orientation began before you even had memories. i believe that gay people are that way because something in their life nudged them in that direction early on. and i dont even mean sexual abuse, just any random every day occurrence or interaction which helps mold behavior. no, i dont believe there is a "cure". if you're gay, your gay. and yes, i believe they deserve all the rights that the rest of us have, but i dont believe they were born genetically gay. and no, my church did not tell me that, my education lead me to that conclusion (psychology and behavioral development).

i cant say i agree with that. sexual orientation is part of hte core that makes someone who they are. that cant be changed just by hanging out with certain people. now if those gay people i'm hanging out with are promiscuous and think its ok to sleep around alot, then maybe htat will rub off on me, but i'd be sleeping around with girls, not dudes. behavior can wear off but not "gayness"

so what DID cause you to start doing those things?

    ZING!

    Nah not me,
I read this a couple of times and the bit about hanging around gays will make you gay just doesn't hold water. When I saw pretty girls as a youngin my dick got hard. Kind of embarrassing but it did. I went to gym class and even showered around other guys. Never got a hard on and never thought they were sexy.
Now, I can kind of see the point about hanging with people of bad influence. My buddies smoked a lot of pot, cigarettes and worse when I was a kid. I tried the pot, but chose not to continue to the degree they did. Hanging with a bad crowd can definitely put peer pressure on a young person to do bad things, but poking each other in the butt. I don't think I'm gonna let my peers pressure me into that one.
On to the subject of gay marriage, I believe it does affect everyone. Like it or not, once gay marriage is approved then all rights will apply. this will lead to additional benefits/rights for those "domestic" partners.
If there is to be gay/lesbian marriage personally I believe it should be called a UNION and Not MARRIAGE. Only because the definition of marriage is man/woman. I think to some that might be more palatable.
    Just my thoughts. Ken:cool:

    From the Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

    Main Entry: mar·riage
    Pronunciation: \ˈmer-ij, ˈma-rij\
    Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry
    Date: 14th century
1 a (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage> b : the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock c : the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage
2 : an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities
    3 : an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry — J. T. Shawcross>

Regardless - "marriage" is just a word and the meaning of words change over time.
