    :annoyed: So many options

I've been thinking of changing majors. I'm over half way done with my current degree, and this semester I've learned that I no longer want to work in the medical field.

I want to learn languages, that's all! Chinese, Russian, and German. Chinese would be the most beneficial because it is on the priority list of many government agencies (arabic would too, but that language doesn't interest me haha).

If I decide to go for a BA in Chinese I would have to start from scratch, another 4 years, but guaranteed to have many doors open up. For that to happen though I would have to switch schools.

The only option I see with German would be a high school teacher.
They offer a Bachelors in German at UTSA (where I'm currently going). That degree has about 70 elective hours  so most (if not all) my current credits would fill that requirement, leaving me only to work on the actual courses.

The upside of being a high school teacher I see would be:
    having summers off
    having christmas off

...did I mention you get summers and christmas off? (Means more quality time with the future wife and family  )

Not all teachers get shitty pay. It mostly depends in which district you get hired. My neighbor is a history teacher, and the starting pay for teachers at his high school is $49,000. Every year there is an increase in their salary too, and if you are qualified to teach any other subject you get extra pay for that too.

The thing is though, German is the language that interests me the most, Russian 2nd most, and Chinese.

I would only have one option with German, teaching. I love the language though.

Just something about the way Russian and German languages sound. Kinda rough.

Chinese, is a very difficult language to learn, (4 years from scratch for the bachelors). My GI Bill benefits are running out. But ultimately it would open many more doors.

kind of a repetitive rant I know, hahaha

    Opinions?

I've thought about that. But I won't have any tools and the only people I'll know are young people from school:/

You are right. No doubt about that. I just wouldn't trust myself to do it, I'm 19 and don't know enough about installations. :/ But if anyone in San Antonio would be willing to help when I'm ready I would appreciate that greatly.
    Thanks for your input.

I've installed and removed more lifts then I care to remember, but now that I've mentioned that 6 hrs and it's done depending on what you get it's not all bad, order it and consider it done with us.

And joel good luck with the change in majors, my sister is a teacher with all these damn degrees and she has had a tough time finding and keeping jobs. she got plenty of experience during school as a teachers aid before she graduated, her emphasis is special education in elementary school, and every year she has to look for a new job. the educational system isn't as stable for young teachers because of the political games played by the older teachers who want to keep there jobs forever, really consider this decision because school ain't cheap and isn't getting any cheaper and jobs are hard to find for someone coming straight from school without the work experience needed. A language teacher is good but with budget cuts going on in these districts they might just go with rosetta stone

Well thanks Eric, I really appreciate it that. I decided I am going to get the Icon Stage 5. It is supposed to be pretty easy to install, and bolts onto factory holes.

    nothing yet!
not always. been teaching for 15 years. wages have been frozen for 1/3 of those years. PLUS with the higher starting teaching salary, that mean smaller increases each year. I do mean small, like 500 bucks small.
