I was happy it was along my route. Google was intent on not letting me go there. Kept telling me there was a road closure 4 hours away and trying to reroute me another way. Ignored Google, saw the VLA, got to the road closure and guess what... no closure! Silly google.

 

Funny, I bet it was cool checking out all of those spots. One day I want to make it out there, never been west in that part is the US.

 

When I lived in Colorado I always made fun on NM. Just feels dirty there. Maybe it's the dust in the air. But going there now, I have a totally different appreciation. Really cool to check out. Even amongst private land there are so many public dirt roads/trails and open ranges. Not long after stopping at the VLA, I saw a road that bypassed Socorro through some hills so I opted to take it... A mile down it turned to dirt and wound its way through open fields and and small mountains where there were cows and antelope roaming freely. You just don't find that here. Everyone has fences and locked gates.

Anyways been debating on what to buy next for the 4runner and the tacoma. 4runner im leaning towards new rear sway bar from superpro. And a radium catch can so the tacoma can get the hand me down. Tacoma im leaning on either a new rear bumper from pelfrey but I'm waiting for them to be on sale. Im most likely gonna either make a catback or buy one. The increase in fuel mileage has been good with the y pipe.

 

I had the same thoughts about Arizona! I just expected this desolate dust bowl or something. But northern Arizona is amazing, lakes and ponds all over, lots of trees and forests and public land and off road trails everywhere.

 

Southern Arizona is even better. I used to live in Benson. Cattle roads are awesome for off-roading!

 

Sounds like a trip to Arizona is in order.
