Rumor has it, @NeonTaco the frames for all the 2001-2001 MTs and ATs are interchangeable. 2.4L, 2.7L, and 3.4L are said to be the same. Just different cross members at the back. Haven't been able to completely confirm this yet. But as the frames are getting kinda scarce and a new factory one is in the $1000's, it helps to know what'll work. I guess the reason no one will come right out and say they are interchangeable is liability. Toyota in Plano and the two big SA dealerships did commit to saying that.

Well if there are differences, and they are minor, that's no problem a drill, angle grinder, and cheap welder can't fix. Good luck dude. Post updates if you can. That info is valuable!

So the FJ A-TRAC switch is the same size as our fog light switch? Maybe I can just find the A-TRAC switch cover and swap it with my no-longer-used fog light switch. I believe it's similar wiring: dash illumination +/-, ground, and acc...

    Hmmm.

Thanks Neon Taco. The cross members are much easier to find. One of the two big SA dealerships can still get them from Toyota (I don't know if they have been made with the original faulty steel though) for around $450. EBay has them for about 1/2 that and haven't tried NAPA yet. Even at 307k miles, I still think the truck is worth the effort. The truck is worth somewhere between $5-8k with a decent frame on it. Still working on getting pics of mine. I was just about sick when I saw what had happened

I agree, the truck is definitely worth the effort. If it were mine I'd do the same and exhaust every avenue to get it fixed as well. Fingers crossed for ya

Thanks. Even the guy here in SA that offered to buy it from me said as much. "You and I both know if you can get it fixed it will run forever" is what he said. I do love these trucks. Had a brand new one back in 1988 (I don't think they were called Tacoma's back then) and rolled it less than a year after buying it. Ever since that, I wanted another one. This one I have now just landed in my lap.

I think he found answer and a frame?
I remember back in the day my old chevys all had the same frame. Just had different crossmembers and mounting locations.

    Yeah, it's crossmember, not frame.
