A little something every chance we get.
One of our TTC friends does it for fun and film, and has been at HF adventures. Don't remember his name, but ask about it. I watched our guy, had a ton of fun, and he answered a ton of questions. I even thought about it, and still do!

Nice. By the way, I'm a master electrician. Y'all let me know if you need any help.

The DJI's are pretty much self-contained units. They aren't really that hard to learn and fly. And they do have a great forum support. You don't really need much of anything else to get started. But, just like modding our trucks, you can spend as much as you want. If I were getting started, this is the unit that I would recommend starting with.

    https://store.dji.com/product/mavic-air?from=menu_products&vid=38961

Cost is $1K. And you could make great vacation vids. And, that one could be used to start a business. I've got $2K in just my airframe. And another $1K in controller, batteries and charging system. The PRo system would be the next step up. And be better suited for commercial business.

Thanks sir, but the solar was my last year "you got retired" project! Can't DIY in this city, and it's all done now, and saving me some bux!
Looks like you already have something like our young guy was getting started with. His first 6 months of work got him that "newsed" Chevy!
Funniest thing was laughing about if he could book a wedding on a weekend, it paid like 10 times what he made on a daily run. Good luck if you do it. Me, still thinking about reading up on it and .....

Ya I have seen those units, but want to learn on the basics with a much cheaper unit. The first main issue I see with them is the flight time. I recently borrowed a friend that he got to take out to the camp in west tx, it did ok and I had never flown it, this reminds me I need to get the video off my phone to post up.

See that is the thing with the DJI's. True hobbyist hate them because anybody can fly them. And, that is why you hear about them so much in the news. Because people without the "Knowledge" fly them in places they shouldn't. I agree that you should study up a buy what is right for you. IDK, $1K may be a lot of money for you, but if you don't start out with something decent in this hobby, you will always be wishing you had something better. Anyway, since I know "a little" about the hobby, I would be glad to support with my knowledge.

I'm turning in for now guys. Talk again tomorrow.

    That's the thing.

I spent 14 hours at work today but I'll get:
1.8 hours of pay for one student
.54 hours of pay for a photo job and a tour
1.2 hours of pay for a night flight with a student.

    All risk, very little reward.

Hi Hover. Hope you can get that changed soon. You've said it before, but I think the "thrill" of of your job obscures that message. Welcome home for the night anyway!

    Hey Kurt!
    Meeee tooooooo...
Meh, it is what it is. I don't expect anyone to truly understand the reality of it or the stress and responsibility that goes along with it.
And thank you, sir! It's well past beer:30 so I'm playing catch-up.

I'll be here for a few while you do. One more refill.....
And it's not the same, but all the prep time I had to put into my last job was always "ignored", as long as I had the final product.
You get your two week on and off job, and maybe we can fund a little drone bidness for fun and favor!

Yep. My last student and I landed at 9:35. We went inside, debriefed, and discussed. We talked for an hour and a half because he had lots of questions. I closed the hangar for the night at 11:10. I only get paid when I'm flying, I didn't make a penny staying as late as I did. But, I'm not about to leave a student with questions hanging.

Could be fun! First year or so of retirement, trying not to make money for no tax. Might be getting a little more adventurous!

Flat/flag hours only pay when you don't get over on time for the job. That's how I made money as a service tech for Saturn.

Good on you for helping that new pilot, even at your expense.
