Good to hear, we had some about a week ago. Nothing great but was a good down pour, but we could use more.

thought I heard thunder a little bit ago but it was just a plane, looks like the rain is going to bypass my area.

Goodmorning folks! :hattip: Glad to finally see some activity in the SA thread. Im an hr and a half northwest of SA, but id also be willing to do a monthly meet or something of the like if we can figure out a place. Maybe somewhere around San Antonio or a central place where most people don't have to travel very far? I am willing to make the trek every once in a while to meet some TW folks! Let me know if y'all end up figuring something out:thumbsup:

    Hey guys,
    Need some help/opinions.
I have been hearing a really bad howl/whirl at most speeds but especially when coasting. I assumed it was the rear diff. I took it to a Toyota here in SA and the service guy said I needed a new diff which was going to cost $3258 (I declined it since i have the hookup at another Toyota dealership). However, when I got my receipt with the diagnosis notes it states " Found rear differential bearing to drive shaft to have worn and making the noise. Replacement of drive shaft needed." I am extremely confused since my conversations with the service rep was centered around replacing the rear diff.
    What do y'all think?
I am thinking of replacing the diff with a brand new one.
Truck is a 2010 TRD Offroad pre runner with 101k miles.

    Thanks

A SA Tacomaworld meet must happen. I see Tacos on every corner (truck, not food) when I am cruising around. Would be nice to get a closer look at them and put a name and face to it.

I don't know, but what I do know is I was told my 2003 rear driveshaft needed to be replaced when I went to the dealer. This was about 3 years ago when I passed up a $2000 bill and the truck still drives to near perfection. So don't get fucked.

Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Are there any Tacoma owners here in the San Antonio area that have done the "rear drum shoe brake conversion to disc pads"?

If so what are your reviews of after doing this conversion?

I would get the opinion from the other dealer in which you have the connection at then go by what is said or not said. There is a big difference in replacing the rear diff vs a drive shaft.

Sounds good, we need more input from others in the SA area.

That is what i am going to do. The other dealer is 4 hours away which is why I went here in town. I researched the symptoms for a bad drive shaft and I am experiencing nothing that is stated.

Possibly, I'm still debating if I want to run 285s w/ spindle lift or run 265/75 with OME coils w/5100s

Still on original carrier bearing? Could be the culprit. I assume that's the bearing in question, unless they are talking about the pinion bearing.

Yes still on the original. The guy just told me it was the bearing that connects from the drive shaft to rear diff. Do you think that would be a cause for a whole diff replacement though?

I honestly would start with replacing the carrier bearing. It can be done for cheap compared to a new diff. I do not think it cause for a new diff. A bad pinion bearing on the other hand can be cause for a new third member. ECGS plus core you can get one for roughly $800 and replace yourself in a couple of hours.
