That's a project I've been wanting to take on since I relocated my spare tire. It wouldn't be too difficult to pull off. A universal mounting plate welded or bolted to the frame would work.

I have seen Smittybilt drop their gen 2 XRC H2O 10K's down to $299 at least once. With the gen 3 out they could go even lower.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll go ahead and grab one for later.

Lots of potential being able to pull from behind. You can easily unstick yourself the way you went in, anchor for tricky descents, help the guy behind you without having to turn around, etc, etc

I’ve had two rear bumper mounted winch’s on trucks and they saved me more than the front ones

 

I always wondered if you're driving out in the Badlands and you're driving in a field and you don't see a trench in front of you and nosedive your truck into a trench how do you recover yourself if you're by yourself winch on the front bumper would be useless

 

A front winch for self recovery can be a huge pain. I've had to get way too creative with snatch blocks when a simple rear winch would have done it

 

And they are super great for winching stuff on a trailer

You don’t have to mount it in the rear bumper
Can mount off of frame with a little fab work and use two fair leads one one each side of the rear bumper bolted together.

 

With my HC bumper it'll have to sit farther towards the front where the spare was. Hadn't considered two fairleads though, that will correct the misalignment and ensure the line pulls correctly. Thanks!

I'll get measurements and see if I can't find a mounting plate tomorrow.
