True, but he did better with the second. Seems he's had them both way apart!

It's a bit of a drive from San Antonio, but I had Eddy at Arlington Automotive Machine Shop do some crank and head work not too long ago on my Toyota 7M. It's a small 1 man operation, but he did good work and charged me fairly. My dad used the same guy on other cars back in the 70's.

Hey look, Oldie opened his truck. Too late getting back to warrant starting with bricks again, and wife has a friend over for dog play date. So, LBR needs some attention.
The was the clanking shackle condom, which is put off because I wanted to rotate the winch, and my ambient temp sensor was mounted too high, and always was getting baked. So, that can't be too much?

    20200617_150628.jpg
    Sensor up top
    20200617_151248.jpg
    Moved to bottom
    20200617_151421.jpg

So I loosened those top hex bolts to rotate the winch, nothing doing. Google the video....oh he'll no! That means surgery!

And there we go. I can tell I need to spool it out, and rewind, but I'll wait until I back in again.

Thanks for the recommendation!! I am okay with a drive, just want to make sure wherever I go is good quality, so your first hand experience means a lot.
It's all good! I was pissed at first, but now it's kinda humorous to me how things turned out. If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all

It has been a great learning experience for sure though, so there is some positive that came out of this

Thanks man! You know what kind of stuff he specializes in? I am really worried about having it done right now.. I really don't want to fool with pulling the engine again when I get it back. There is quite a bit of work involved

Wish you lived closer @BassAckwards , it's kinda a fun building an engine. I've only done two, but they were PERFECT! Patience and detail. You get speed with experience.

You have experience building engines?! I am okay with driving, so no problem there. i would love to be able to tear things apart and learn about how it all goes together. Pulling the motor made me want to learn how to do it all myself. I have been self taught up to this point and it all started bc the toyota dealership took advantage of me on ujoint replacements. Decided I'd figure out how to do it myself after that. The trend seems to be continuing lol, most things I have done have been out of necessity or bc someone is trying to rob me blind for the work. Are there quite a few tools needed to do everything right?

It's pretty easy and fun. I've rebuilt 5 engines, mostly small block Chevy V8s and Saturn engines lol.

Dang, that's awesome bro!! I would love to learn how to do that. Maybe we should all have a mod day and tear it all down and then I can take the block & heads worked on and then we could put it back together. If I could use this whole shit show as a learning experience I think I could get a lot out of it with the help of knowledgeable folks like you, Kurt, and others in here too!

You probably have everything but a ring compressor, and a couple pulley pullers - they lend those out.
You can do it man! I haven't been inside since the 80's, but parts are parts, and functions don't change. Now you got youtube and the net!
Built a 283 from junkyard that was so clean, you could eat off it. Never got it in my Sedan Delivery, because no big tools. Sold it years later to a guy that dumped in a Nova (as-was), and went and won Indy bracket racing Nationals.
Built my 360 Dodge Magnum with transplant cams, heads, and manifolds. It ran just fine.
Built the first engine in my stock car with my friend and mechanic.
Helped my older son learn how to on the 22R in the 88 Toyota PickUp.

I've seen your work, you can do it. Just farm out the machine stuff to local trustworthy folks. Keep everything as clean as @hoverlover did with his trans work, and nothing to it!

This. Take it slow and treat it like you're building silicon microchips and you're golden. All the tools can be rented from autozone/ advance auto

Oh, and throw this in for good measure. You need machine work, find the local speed shop. That's where everyone knows who to go to for heads, etc. Let pros do the machining stuff.
