Well I slept on it, and I am back on thinking I may want to try to do this.. You have a good point there, I would definitely slave over every piece too, and I know it'd end up good quality, so that is a big plus for trying to tackle this myself. Having another vehicle has been a god send. Makes me nervous though now that i'm relying on it and i'll be in trouble if I run into issues. The more I think on this, the more I think I want to give it a go. I know I am bound to destroy something in the process but I am really looking to learn something here. Sending it off and having to pay someone to do things that I know I could just doesn't sit well with me.
Thanks! I will definitely keep you posted on what I decide to do and let you know how it turns out
Howdy Alex! Man I wish I could say I was leak free, but the motor they sold me had a damaged timing cover and they covered it up and didn't tell me. Got the new motor installed in the truck, filled it with oil and it started leaking really bad from between the timing cover and upper oil pan. Pulled both of the oil pans and found this:
    IMG_4051.jpg

The fact that they covered it up really pissed me off, so I pulled it all apart and back out of the truck and dropped it back off at the salvage yard. Now I'm trying to decide to rebuild mine myself mostly except for the machine work, or to take it somewhere for a full rebuild.

    Howdy Mark! You too brother:cheers:

    Good afternoon Kevin!:hattip:
Thanks for the recommendation Mike! I am sure I can track him down, but i'll let you know if I can't find him :fistbump:

Yes sir, timing cover was definitely cracked. Can see where it was separating in the pic above
Good afternoon Oldie! What's good man?:hattip:
    Good afternoon Josh
    Howdy Maner:wave:
    Good luck with the hunt!

    Howdy Matt!
    Afternoon Mr. Brandon
    Howdy Danny!:hattip:

Sure am! Man this thread was movin!
    ^^^This

Worked from home today so started early and got off a little early. Been a productive day! Hope everyone has had a great Thursday so far!

Today has really moved along very nicely today if I say so myself, hard to believe that it is already after 3.....I started early as well, but also stopped for a little bit so the propane tank could get delivered.

Wish it was that simple. I take a 3” aircat split the heads the knock them off with a IR air hammer. Then plasma the river out. Then dress the hole up to a 9/16” hole. Bolt an torque them up.
