Evening, gents. Haven't checked in here in a while, but a question for you.

If I was looking to make a move to San Antonio, just renting at first, and looking for a house so I could bring my smokers and grills and other goodies with me, what areas should I look at, and which ones should I stay away from? I'd be trying to stay sub-$1000 for a while since I'd be blowing my whole wad getting me and my stuff there. Also, all I would need pretty decent internet for work. I know that's a pretty loaded question with lots of possible opinions, but I'd appreciate hearing any and all of them.

    Thanks!

Going well, will post some stuff in my thread.
So looking for a house for under a grand will be a challenge. I would stick more to the nw to the ne area. That or try to find a place out of the city limits of you don’t mind driving in.

I'd prefer to be outside the city, but not too much. I live about 10 mins outside our small city now.

I live 33 miles from work, I enjoy the drive home as it gets me away from things. I am also down 35 south past Lytle.

71 miles to the office for me, luckily not burning my fuel or going in every day. Prices are crazy, my mortgage is wayyyy less than what most rent an apartment for.

As Mark @LostHusker said, looking for a place under $1000 is going to be a challenge anywhere in the city. The only type of housing that comes to mind under that price point is apartments and condos and they don't typically allow smokers and grills. Rents are rising here. I have found that looking on Zillow will also give you a pretty good idea of the rents in different areas of the city. Good thing about SA is that electricity and water are both really cheap in comparison to other cities.
    Good Luck with your search.

Son coming over to replace his valance panel on the Prius, and I will probably start to putz the truck re-wire. Got my first veggies in pots yesterday - they look so happy!
