Well, my mall crawler is no longer a dirt virgin! Yeah! :yay: It needs to remain a daily driver so cosmetic damage is not as much a problem as functional damage. I have a Tacoma Sport 4x4 with stock tires and suspension. Has enough mall damage that paint scrapes from brush are badges of honor in comparison!

I found a book "California Trails" and talked my wife into doing Joshua Tree Geology tour road with our 2 year old and then exit "straight" :D out to route 10 about a month and a half ago. Rated by the book as a difficulty 2 and 4 on a scale of 1-10. The second half of that had a nice rock garden chasm filled with head size rocks piled and heaped. Went slow down through it, no damage. Lots of Fun!! Good thing it was passable out to route 10. I don't think I would have made it back up! The second half rated 4 was a mistake... I wanted the difficulty 2 and didn't read the turn around and go back... so ended up on the difficulty 4!! A Lot of FUN!

Memorial day we camped in San Bernadino National Forest. We did 5s07 5s09 and 5s10 on the Monday. (This starts at mile marker 49.25 next to the water treatment plant. We were with my cousin and her wife in their Tundra. Trail was steep and rutted but the Tacoma had no traction problems, even with stock tires with 50,000 miles on them. It was slow to avoid damage. About 2.5 hours for 15 miles, including the stop at the river.

My Daughter helps navigate using the book.

Steep Narrow Rutted But a lot of fun maneuvering right next to the edge... yes my wife Loved looking right out over the edge of the mountain many times. Firearm shooting is legal/allowed here. Many groups shooting in many of the different side canyons.

Looking back where we came from:

A steep place to pull to the side

Going through the stream 4/5ths of the way through

    The water is Painfully cold!

Now that she knows the Truck will be ok and it is fun for all of us I can hook up with everyone from TW!!!!
    Whats happening next in SoCal??!!??!!!

Not sure if I can make it this month... to be clear, these pictures are near Idylwild. Start is on Route 74 mile marker 49.25 west of Mountain Center. Finish is on Route 243 North of Idylwild.

Both Borders and Barnes and Noble carry the series. You can probably get it online. Title: California Trails - South Coast Region. They have other regions of CA and AZ.
Authors are Peter Massey, Jeanne Wilson, and Angela Titus.
I don't know if you can pick it up at the publisher..
Publisher: Adler Publishing Company, 1601 PCH, Suite 290, Hermosa Beach, CA90254

Each book has about 50 trails rated 2-5. These books don't get into the really hard trails where you need dedicated Rock Crawlers or Mud Boggers. I also have the Desert Region, which includes the other route I did in Joshua Tree on the Geology Tour road. That one was FUN but a little more chance of damage..:D

They have 6 books that cover all of California. If you draw a crooked line from Bishop to Fresno to Montery there are three books below that line. South Coast, Desert Region and Central Mountains.

and 4 more books that cover all of Arizona.
