SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS: Off-roader killed near Silverwood Lake (Cleghorn 2N47)

An off-roading accident killed a 27-year-old Yucaipa woman and hurt her passenger near Silverwood Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains, say California Highway Patrol officers.

Tanya Ruiz died soon after the 4:36 p.m. roll-over wreck Tuesday, Oct. 13, along forest road 2N47 slightly south of the lake.

Ruiz lost control while rounding a curve, Officer Juan C. Quintero said in a written statement.

The vehicle hit a rock, overturned and rolled down an embankment.

The passenger -- 44-year-old Maammar Anteur of San Bernardino -- was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
