    180k. under WOT from a dig, at night, i can see a decent puff of smoke. this brings the purely hypothetical question, (a) if its rings, would it be cheaper to find a 60k motor and swap it in done deal or (b) find 60k motor, tear it down, freshen it up, then slap it in. then keep my current smoke burner for another project down the road ? this is all hypothetical of course since the actual issue is unknown at this point. its also starting to ping bad at times. oh boy, this is sounding worse and worse.

    why LS1's?

    why not a new crate LS3 with the E-rod option, ECU, and all the looms.

    because i dont have 5k to spend lol. that and my 4l60e would es-plode. aaaand my rear end is also getting sloppy on me.

    any chance you could find out from your guy what it would cost to have the rear end rebuilt on my 03 4x4 1500 ? oh and last time i had the oil changed, the guys said that the rear end was fucking bone dry. so thats awesome.

    Ohh Myyyyy, dry diff, a crowd favorite....:eek::eek: Jeff, you'd be amazed at how many vehicles out there are dry from the factory, completely missed during the new car prep...

    & yeah I can find out for you, guys name is Dave & I've known him most my life, great mechanic, he has a legit 5 bay shop in La Mesa & he offroads as well ...

    yeah, dry as a bone. ive never checked it in the 5 years we've hat the truck, and there is no leaks at the diff cover. yikes.

    LS1-T56 swap, Z06 ported heads, cam, Titanium valves, Kevlar clutch. Now building a forged stroker (383) and all the ponies! Old setup was rod-knockin on heaven's door...
    I would find a low mileage motor and slap it in for costs sake..

    Thats a great option.

    if so, know where i can get one for in the 2200-2500 range ? an engine swap i can do, but a engine rebuild aint happening lol

    What is this going into?

    LS1 about 100 lbs less than iron block, but more than double the cost, and isnt safe over 1200+hp due to Aluminum block weakness.

    LQ9 or the like can be found all day long for under $1K at salvage yards

    Either motor will bolt up to an 4LXX trans.

    Go for the iron block IMO, I used an LS1 since its in my Tacoma and didnt want to add much weight up front compared to the original 4 banger.
