Looking for input. My trailer deck is shot and I was going to replace it. Was thinking 2x6, 2x8 or 2x10. 2x6 option is the cheapest but not by much at all after hardware, was thinking 2x10 just because less holes to dril, boards to prep and hardware to install. Any real advantage/disadvantage to the wider boards?

 

all the same. less holes, yes. but since they are all flat and are supported from the bottom via steel supports, go with the cheaper route.

 

Is that cool with you? I bought my light bar but it won't be delivered till next week

 

Its within $10-20 but a difference in 10-20 bolts depending on how many rows I do.

 

well if its only 20$ different, then go 6 or 8". i thought you were talking 75-100$.

 

Wider boards are more prone to cracking and twisting, thats the downside.

Or use that Poly board synthetic wood, costs more, weighs more, but lasts forever, longer than your trailer! Oh ya, you said keep costs down, scratch that!

 

No the 2x10s are more than the 2x6s, but the difference is around $50. And the hardware covers most of that. I was thinking for $10-$20 I don't wanna drill 15-20 more holes.lol

 

Does anybody have steelies or a super cheap set of rims and tires. Tires can be very used. Was gonna get a set but they fell through. Anything just laying around in the garage?

 

Damn$$$ poly would make my trailer so heavy I couldn't tow it.

 

Know a guy looking for wheels and tires and has stock steelies. I let you know if he gets tires.

Hey I was talking dad last night on a skid plate can you get a deal on a steel sheet or should I shop around and what gauge is needed or preferred?

 

Got 5 tires on 5 steelies , in the corner chris...

 

i can only get a deal on bulk purchases, but im not buying 200' of tubing or 10 sheets of plate lol. id shop around. i dont have access to a water jet or plazma guy yet. you thinking of going steel, or aluminum ?

 

Thanks for the input, I just remembered wood isn't the actual size. I'll just do 14 2x6s. One bolt in each board per row. Should work good.

 

I would consider 2 per board so they dont warp, just my .02c
