So I installed a lift on a 4x4 Tacoma this morning and did the Bilstein 6112 front and the 5160 rear setup certainly a lot more beefy than the 5100 series suspension, been doing quite a few of these suspension upgrades lately.

It comes with the collar/snap ring type configuration with 5 settings starting at .60" average lift so that setting comes close to leveling the truck out the next setting would almost make it nose high.

I'll try and get some pics (forgot to take the while I was working lol)

Hey guys, what's up? I'm new to the Tacoma world as I just acquired my first truck. I have already taken note of James up at the Truck Shop and I believe I will use him to check my tranny fluid just to make sure everything is good coming from the factory.

I was a car guy before all of this, so a lot of it is new to me. Stationed down here in the SD area, so I am excited to get out and about.

    Welcome.

Why did you bring up the trans fluid level needing to be checked? Is your trans doing weird things or something?

Well the guy over at this thread has got me paranoid now about my brand new 2016 Tacoma. I believe I have experienced a downshift "clunk" on occasion, but I am not sure what the delay from R to D is supposed to be as I haven't really drove an automatic till now. I figure its better to be safe than sorry just to get it checked. I'd do it myself, but I live somewhere where working on your car in a public parking garage is frowned upon.

I just checked mine after having installed a more effective/larger trans cooler. The whole process from start to finish took less than 30 minutes, including adding a quart.

As an aside, I hadn't been totally satisfied with the behavior of the transmission on my 2015 since driving it home. I left it with Toyota Carlsbad for a day so they could check the fluid level, and they told me it wasn't low. The amount of fluid I added was measurably more more than just the cooler's capacity, so now I'm doubting whether they actually checked it when asked. Since topping off the fluid shifts are noticeably smoother throughout the range, up and down.

I can check out the trans as well, pretty simple to just check the fluid once its at operating temp. Let me know if I can help if its closer to you unless you are in actual SD and not CP.
Congrats on the truck BTW I can do pretty much any work needed as well, check my thread for references if you are interested, and I can seve you some cash as well.
You are heading into the rabbit's hole now, haha.
Shoot I ended up with an LS in mine, lol.

Jason... I might hit you up to check my transmission fluid level. I have 7500 miles on my 2016 TRD Sport with tow package. I was going to have Toyota Carlsbad check it at my 10,000 mile service but I doubt they will actually physically do the check. I've heard too many people that have been told "it's fine" when the level was not actually checked. I live in Carmel Valley area. Heard good things about your work. How long would it take to get this done and when would be a good time?

So to solve the problem you just add more fluid? Or was the problem that they never put enough in from the factory?

Several have reported their 2nd gens being under-filled from the factory, and it sounds like some 3rd gens may be experiencing the same issue. In my case I added fluid to get the level up to where it should be.

I could do it while you wait. And I work from my home shop so I'm very flexible most of the time.
And Amsoil is better than the Toyota WS fluid BTW

That would be awesome. I would like to do it sometime next week if possible. I would like to wait while you do it. Doesn't it take a while to get it down to the right temperature?

No need, it needs to be checked when at operating temp so its ready when you get here really. In the write-up they make it sound a lot more complicated than it needs to be!
